Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Rogers.
Hi Mike, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been singing since I was a kid (mostly school and church) and went to college on a vocal scholarship. I grew up on my mom’s side, never got to know my father’s side very well but know enough to know that the Rogers genes are very strong. If I had been born 3 minutes later Kenny and I would share a birthday but instead I share my mother’s birthday. I am a teacher who primarily specializes in working with kids with special needs and behavioral issues caused by trauma as my youngest son deals with these issues and I myself faced them growing up.
My goal is not to claim more than what I know to be true… I want to carry on Kenny’s legacy while building my own based on the lessons life has taught me. I know others will do and are doing the same and making their own and I think that is wonderful. His spark deserves to live in all of us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been bumps. Some accuse me of riding Kenny’s coattails but I never have. Many of Kenny’s fans are very protective of his legacy to the point of absurdity but I try to respond with kindness or ignore them. Also there seems to be an ego that many artists acquire once they hit a certain point that makes them think they are above artists who are at the point they were at once themselves. I hope to break this cycle.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As I said I am a teacher and bring an educator bleeds into my music often. I enjoy being a positive male role model for kids that don’t have one outside of school.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that evrrything you want or need is either minutes or about an hour away.😆 The weather is abdolutely schizophrenic though!
