Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Nicholson.
Hi Natasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Tasha, aka the Qualified Queen! I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 20 years as a hairstylist and makeup artist, and for a long time that was my identity. I built my business, Q² Lux Lounge, formerly known as Tasha’s Salon, from the ground up and became known as a well-rounded stylist and makeup artist who is versatile with my skills.
Over time, I started to feel like I wasn’t living up to my purpose. I had built knowledge, systems, and experience that had value far beyond the chair.
I’ve had seasons where things were stable and seasons where everything was dark and felt uncertain. That forced me to think differently about income, stability, and how I could create something that didn’t rely on me physically showing up every time I needed to make money.
That’s what led me into digital products and coaching. I started building from what I already knew, creating resources like my Single Mom Success Blueprint, where I help women take what they have and turn it into income.
I still carry my background in beauty with me, but my focus has expanded. I’m passionate about helping women, especially single moms, stop sitting on their knowledge and start building assets.
My journey hasn’t been a straight line, but every part of it has shaped who I am and what I do today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges has been navigating inconsistency in income, especially as a single mom. When your income is tied to you physically showing up, it can get scary fast. And when you don’t have access to or can’t afford consistent childcare, showing up becomes even harder. There were times I had to turn down work, reschedule clients, or push through exhaustion because I had no other option.
I also faced a major hit to my visibility when I transitioned from a salon location to service-only. After years of building my presence and reputation, my business literally fell off the map, and that directly impacted my income. It forced me to step back and really evaluate how I was building and what I was relying on.
On a personal level, there were moments I felt overwhelmed and unsure of what my next move should be. Balancing motherhood, business, and financial pressure is not easy. There were seasons I didn’t feel motivated, even when I knew change had to happen. Without a strong support system to fall back on, I had to lean fully on my faith. God has been my constant. He’s the one who carried me through the seasons where I had nothing else to hold onto, and He’s the reason I kept moving even when nothing made sense.
Those challenges are exactly what pushed me to shift. I realized I needed to build something that didn’t rely solely on my time or physical presence. That’s what led me into digital products and coaching.
Now, instead of just working through the struggle, I use those experiences to help other women, especially single moms, create more stability and control over their income.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I’m a creative. For over 20 years, I’ve built my reputation in the beauty industry as a hairstylist and makeup artist known for creating elevated looks, luxury experiences, and bringing ideas to life through beauty and creativity. From bridal glam to transformational hair services, my work has always been rooted in helping women feel confident, seen, and empowered.
Over the years, that creativity expanded beyond beauty. What started behind the chair evolved into content creation, coaching, digital products, and authorship. Today, I use my experience to help women, especially single moms, recognize the value in what they already know and turn it into opportunities and income. I’m the author of the book Grieving the Living and creator of the Single Mom Success Blueprint, both created from real-life experiences, growth, and resilience.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to evolve while staying true to who I am. I didn’t allow myself to be boxed into one title or one season of life. I’ve continued to grow, pivot, and create with purpose.
What sets me apart is that my work comes from lived experience and creativity, not just theory. Whether it’s beauty, branding, coaching, or content, I know how to take a vision and bring it to life in a way that feels authentic, impactful, and valuable.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
One thing I would tell anyone just starting out is to stop waiting until everything is perfect before you start. You don’t need to have everything figured out, you just need to start with what you already know and build from there.
I’ve had moments where I felt discouraged, especially when I was putting content out and not seeing the views or support I expected. It’s easy to start questioning yourself in those moments or feel like what you’re doing isn’t working. I’ve been there more than once, and I’m still learning how to push through that.
One thing I wish I understood earlier is that confidence doesn’t come before you start, it comes after. A lot of us wait until we feel ready, but that feeling usually doesn’t come until you’ve already taken the steps and put yourself out there.
I’ve also had to learn to stick to the plan and not the mood. There are days you won’t feel motivated, and there are times it won’t feel like it’s working, but showing up anyway is what makes the difference.
What I’ve learned is that your skills alone aren’t always enough, you have to learn how to position and present what you do in a way people understand. That was a shift for me.
Another big lesson has been not relying on just one way of making income. When everything depends on one source, it can create a lot of pressure. That’s part of what pushed me to start building outside of just providing services.
And honestly, consistency is something I’m still working on. It’s not always easy to keep showing up, especially when it feels like no one is paying attention. But I’ve realized that stopping doesn’t get me any closer either.
You don’t need a huge audience or a perfect plan. You just need to be willing to keep going, figure things out as you go, and trust that what you already have has value, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet.
