Life & Work with Rebeca Salazar of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebeca Salazar.

Hi Rebeca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the beauty industry began long before I ever earned my cosmetology license. At just 14 years old, I found joy in styling hair and applying makeup for my friends before parties and special occasions. Even then, I knew I had discovered something I truly loved.

Life, however, had different plans. Growing up in Monterrey, Mexico, pursuing a career in cosmetology wasn’t financially possible for my family, so I followed a different professional path. Although I set my dream aside, I never let it go. Deep inside, I always believed I would one day return to it.

That opportunity came after I moved to the United States. It felt like life had given me a second chance to pursue the passion that had always lived in my heart. I enrolled in cosmetology school, graduated, and immediately committed myself to building the career I had dreamed of since I was a teenager.

Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has not been easy. I’ve experienced both victories and setbacks, but every challenge has helped me grow stronger, become more resilient, and better understand what my clients truly need. Every experience has shaped not only my technical skills but also my character.

Working in several beauty salons allowed me to gain valuable experience and learn from different environments. Eventually, I found the confidence to take the leap and build my own business. Since then, I have remained committed to continuous education, mastering new techniques, and staying current in an industry that is constantly evolving.

Today, my work is about much more than hair and makeup. I believe beauty has the power to transform how a person feels about themselves. Helping someone look in the mirror with confidence, seeing them smile, and knowing I played a small part in that transformation is the greatest reward I could ever receive.

My story is proof that dreams don’t have an expiration date. Sometimes they simply wait for the right moment—and when that moment comes, it’s up to us to have the courage to pursue them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been an easy journey. Like many entrepreneurs, I have faced moments of uncertainty, sacrifice, and challenges that tested my determination.

One of my greatest challenges was starting almost from scratch in a new country, adapting to a different culture, learning a new language, and finding my place in a highly competitive industry. My journey meant knocking on many doors. More than once, I encountered people who doubted my abilities simply because I was just starting out. However, I never allowed those doubts to define my future. Instead, I chose to prove myself through hard work, dedication, and results.

I embraced every opportunity to give my very best. With each client, I earned trust not only through the quality of my work, but also through the passion, respect, and care I put into every service I provide. For me, this has never been just a job—it is my calling. It is something I genuinely love, and it inspires me to always go above and beyond.

Starting my own business also meant learning far more than cosmetology. I had to develop skills in business management, customer service, marketing, and entrepreneurship while continuing to refine my techniques and stay current with the latest trends in the beauty industry.

There were moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, and obstacles, but each one taught me an invaluable lesson. I learned that success doesn’t happen overnight—it is built through consistency, discipline, preparation, and a genuine passion for what you do.

Today, I see every challenge as an opportunity to grow. I truly believe that difficulties are not meant to stop us but to strengthen us. Every door I knocked on, every obstacle I overcame, and every person who believed in me helped shape the professional I am today. I am proud to have built a career founded on perseverance, professionalism, and a deep commitment to transforming not only my clients’ appearance, but also their confidence and self-esteem.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional cosmetologist specializing in hair color, professional makeup, and hairstyling for brides, quinceañeras, and special events. My work is about much more than transforming someone’s appearance—my purpose is to help every client feel beautiful, confident, and empowered.

Over the years, I have specialized in creating personalized looks that enhance each woman’s natural beauty. I believe every face and every hairstyle tells a unique story, which is why I never take a one-size-fits-all approach. I take the time to listen to each client, understand their needs, and create a style that reflects their personality and makes them feel like the best version of themselves.

I am also known for my attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to continuous education. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and I believe it is essential to stay current with new techniques, trends, and products so I can consistently provide the highest level of service.

What truly sets me apart—and what my clients value most—is my patience, my warm and genuine approach, and the respect with which I treat every person who sits in my chair. I believe every client deserves to feel heard, understood, and genuinely cared for from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave. My goal is not only for them to love the final result, but also to feel that they made a worthwhile investment in themselves and to leave with an experience so positive that they will always want to come back.

What makes me most proud is not only the physical transformations I create, but also the emotional transformation I see in my clients.

I firmly believe that beauty is not about changing who you are, but about enhancing the best version of yourself. That philosophy has guided my career from the very beginning and is the value I strive to bring to every service I provide. My greatest satisfaction is knowing that my clients remember me not only for a beautiful hairstyle or flawless makeup, but for how I made them feel—valued, respected, and genuinely cared for with dedication and kindness.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a dreamer, creative, and incredibly determined. I was naturally drawn to beauty, fashion, and art because they gave me a way to express my creativity.

I was fortunate to grow up with the unconditional support of my parents, who became my greatest example of hard work, discipline, and integrity. They taught me that no dream can be achieved without dedication, that every sacrifice has its reward, and that a person’s true character is reflected in the commitment and passion they bring to everything they do. Those lessons became one of the strongest foundations of my life and continue to guide every step of my career.

I have always had a strong desire to learn. I enjoy expanding my knowledge, discovering new techniques, and continuing to grow because I believe we never stop learning. I see every challenge as an opportunity to improve and become a better version of myself.

Over the years, I have gained experience and confidence, but one thing has never changed: my passion for serving others.

I truly believe that success is measured not only by professional achievements but also by the positive impact we leave on people’s lives. That has always been my greatest motivation and continues to be the reason I love what I do. Today, as Rebecka Artist, I carry those values with me every day, striving to ensure that my work reflects the principles I was raised with—hard work, humility, respect, and a genuine love for serving others.
