Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Fowler.
Hi Richard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I drove 13 hours from Chicago to Dallas completely by myself during the pandemic, originally planning to move back home once everything settled down. Around that same time, I made the decision to drop out of high school and bet on myself, even though I knew the road ahead wouldn’t be easy. But God had other plans for me.
I never intended to take my music career seriously until I met my manager. About a year after we connected, everything started changing fast. I was performing at shows, appearing on TV, and finally seeing my hard work turn into something real. Since then, my life has continued to evolve, and I’m grateful for every step of the journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Along the journey, I’ve faced evictions, car repossessions, financial struggles, and some of the lowest moments of my life, including being admitted to hospitals after suicide attempts. Becoming a father also changed everything for me — it gave me a bigger reason to keep pushing no matter how hard things got.
One of the biggest challenges has been knowing that I only truly have myself to fall back on. I’ve had to learn how to survive, stay mentally strong, and keep believing in myself even during the times when life felt completely against me. Every obstacle I faced helped shape me into the person and artist I am today, and it’s a big part of why I move with so much passion and determination now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m more than just an artist, I’m a versatile artist. I’m able to adapt to almost any genre, including Trap, Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop, which allows me to connect with different audiences and constantly evolve creatively. Along with making music, I take pride in being a strong songwriter who can create records that are authentic, relatable, and memorable.
What also sets me apart is the team I have around me. Having a solid team has helped me grow not only as an artist, but as a professional performer. I’ve learned the importance of performance etiquette, stage presence, and how to carry myself in the industry.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come despite everything I’ve faced personally. I turned pain, struggles, and real-life experiences into motivation, and now I use my music to inspire others while continuing to grow as both an artist and a person.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has definitely played a role in my life, both good and bad. I’ve experienced a lot of hardships that could’ve easily stopped me from financial struggles and setbacks to mental health battles and having to figure life out mostly on my own. At times, it felt like bad luck followed me, especially dealing with evictions, car repossessions, and personal struggles while also trying to build a career and be a father.
But I also believe a lot of the “good luck” in my life came from staying consistent and not giving up. Moving from Chicago to Dallas during the pandemic changed the direction of my entire life. Meeting my manager was one of the biggest turning points for me, because before that I never planned on taking music seriously. That opportunity opened doors for me to perform, appear on TV, and grow as an artist.
Overall, I think luck may open a door, but hard work, resilience, and having faith are what keep you moving forward once that door opens.
