Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Rizzo.
Hi Roxanne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my career as an aesthetician, and over time I developed a deep passion for special effects makeup. I was fascinated by the artistry behind it; the endless ways to create and transform. I started taking classes from artists in the film industry, completely immersing myself in the craft. I soon knew I wanted to bring my skills to the big screen. I applied for the union, and from there, everything took off. Since then, my career has been an incredible journey. I’ve been Lucy Liu’s makeup artist for over a decade, and I currently work on the hit TV show The Gilded Age, collaborating with the talented Broadway star Donna Murphy.
I remember when television and film transitioned into HD suddenly, every detail was visible, every imperfection magnified. It got me thinking about how I could enhance the look of makeup on camera in a new way. That spark led me to create Bronze Glow, a mist designed to make makeup appear seamless under HD lighting. It softens the look of makeup, provides light coverage, evens skin tone, and gives a healthy, natural radiance.
Bronze Glow was developed and tested under professional film lighting with some of the best crews in the business. What makes it special is that it’s all been built through word-of-mouth. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a rewarding journey, but not always a smooth one. When I first started, I knew nothing about the business or industry, and that was intimidating. This is a tough field and you really have to put in your time. My first big break came when I got a last-minute call to work with Sylvester Stallone, just after joining the union. I was terrified but knew it was my moment. I had to project confidence and learn the set lingo as I went and what we call in the business “fake it till you make it.” That experience taught me resilience and set the tone for the rest of my career. Over the years, I’ve learned that challenges are necessary. The long hours and demanding pace can be difficult, but I’ve found balance through healthy habits, sleep, and movement whenever possible. In this industry, you must prioritize wellness and self-care, even if it’s just on the weekends.
Pressure doesn’t break me, it drives me. I actually work best under pressure. Every obstacle I’ve faced has pushed me to grow, and I keep moving forward for the vision I have for myself, my daughter, and my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional makeup artist and business owner who focuses on enhancing natural beauty and creating a flawless, no makeup, makeup look. Over the years, I’ve built my brand around simplicity, quality, and results, which led to the creation of my signature product, Bronze Glow. It was made with the intention of giving people an effortless hint of health, that feels good on the skin and works for everyday life.
While I’m dedicated to my craft, being a mother is the driving force behind everything I do. My daughter inspires me to work hard, stay grounded, and build something meaningful; not just for myself, but for her future as well.
In my work, I value professionalism above all else. I start each day with a positive mindset and make it a priority to bring that energy into every interaction. Even when life gets challenging, I believe in leaving negativity at the door and walking into every space with a clear, uplifting energy. I’ve learned that maintaining a positive environment helps clients feel comfortable and confident, and that matters just as much as the makeup itself. My goal is simple: to create products and experiences that help people feel like the best version of themselves one glow at a time.
How do you think about happiness?
Without question my daughter. Before she was born, my career was my first love. Now, she is. She inspires me to work harder and dream bigger. There’s a balance I cherish between working passionately and spending meaningful time with her. I want to show her the world, to teach her that she can build the life she envisions. Everything I do, every project, and every glow is for her and the future I want her to see.
