Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Stephens.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born near Chicago and raised in McAllen, Texas. I attended Texas State University and started my career in music after I graduated. I grew up listening to the music that my parents listened to. Soul singers and songwriters like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Prince. Artists that did it all. Wrote the songs, played the instruments.
I was also listening to the music of my time like any other kid. Finding all kinds of music because downloading and the mp3 format was becoming more popular. The soul music really stuck with me though. I started playing guitar around 13 and writing songs shortly after.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a singer/songwriter, musician, and producer of my own music (sometimes others). I enjoy creating my songs on the guitar. Once the idea is pretty much developed, I’ll start thinking about the arrangement with other instruments in mind and record a demo in my home studio. I hope that people can find joy in my music. Whether it’s a song that makes them dance or smile, I want them to take what they need from the music. I like the idea of having songs for all types of situations. I like thinking a person might work out to this song or someone might find this one romantic.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Don’t be afraid to get out there and talk to people. It doesn’t necessarily have to be about your music or even music related either. Sometimes people just like talking about regular stuff. Forming genuine friendships is pretty valuable in any society.
