Meet Alice Laura Sedlická of Alice Laura Models in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Laura Sedlická.

Alice Laura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea for Alice Laura Models originally came up in Berlin, Germany, while completing my Master’s Degree in Political Economy. To understand my company and the philosophy behind it, you should know a little more of my personal story. Before starting my studies, I was working as a volunteer in the Dominican Republic teaching English and French, working in environmental education and ecotourism.

Then, through merit scholarships, I studied abroad for 2 years (1 year in Havana, Cuba and one year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). All these experiences and many years of studies allowed me to learn 6 languages fluently. To earn some extra money while in university, I started working as a model/hostess on many national and international conventions, events and fashion shows. Working as a model, I quickly realized that companies needed more than just beautiful faces. I helped them with translations, filtered important clients and explained their products.

Thus, I basically became part of the team. Clients would not notice that it was my first time working with the company. Satisfied with my work, more and more companies approached me looking for models like me. I began connecting companies with highly educated models who were students, as I was at this time. This is how Alice Laura Models started.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a company is always a challenge, more so, if your background is not in business. From creating a logo, a website, building valuable connections and scouting talent to making sure strict quality standards are kept, in the beginning, you are basically doing everything. You feel every success and failure that comes across and it is a constant ride of emotions. More and more, I learned to delegate tasks in order to focus on growing the company.

Otherwise, you are loaded with work and have no time to think about the bigger picture. I was able to build valuable partnerships and am currently expanding our presence to other cities of the USA. We’re hoping that soon we will able to offer our services not only in Germany and Dallas but also all over the USA.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our company specializes in placing high fashion models skilled in sales, brand promoting and hosting for upscale events, trade shows and fashion events. We are known for the class, elegance and intellect of our models. We have found our niche focusing on elegance, class and competence, rather than short dresses. A high degree of education, knowledge of foreign languages and a very attractive look are only a few qualifications that are required of our talent. We want our models to be valuable team members for the company, who help translate, filter important clients, direct customers to the right contact person and make any event a success.

We are breaking down the prejudice of models being beautiful but empty shells. Our team wants to encourage young people to focus on their education, live abroad, open their minds and learn from different ways of living. Moreover, our models, most of the students, make valuable connections with companies for their future careers and learn about different industries while working with us.

Our future vision for the business is to work with companies that not only focus on turning a profit but also on having a positive impact (ethical fashion, environmentally friendly, companies with a humanistic approach).

The proudest moment of my career so far has been seeing the growth in confidence and maturity of one of our first models. Working with us, she was motivated to focus on her education and even to learn a new language starting from scratch. After performing on several events and getting to know different industries, she got an opportunity for a great internship with one of the company´s she had been hired through Alice Laura Models.

Now, after finishing her studies, she is working full time for this company, loves its culture and feels excited about what she is doing. Generally, I want to empower our models for their future lives. I love being the force that drives them to work on themselves intellectually, to learn new languages or get to know more about an industry they may be interested in. But most importantly, I want to encourage them to do what they are passionate about.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
DFW is great for businesses like mine. Specifically, in Plano, where our business is based out of, growth is everywhere. Large corporations are moving here and are bringing waves of international professionals. It makes you being positive about your business and its future. I feel especially inspired by other young entrepreneurs trying to do their own thing by realizing their business ideas.

Especially for our company, there is a lot of opportunities as there are a lot of corporate events and trade shows coming up. To anybody thinking to start a company, I would recommend starting out here. Cost of living is still lower than in other parts of the USA and people are great to work with.
