Meet Anannya Chowdhury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anannya Chowdhury.

Anannya, please share your story with us.
My artwork is very colorful, vibrant and very detailed. I am passionate and fascinated with an expression of rich colors on my canvas. I love to create stimulation of eyes and brain movement with my detailed, colorful patterns and I don’t use pens, markers and stencils, but very traditional methods simply brush paint and sometimes bamboo sticks. I am spiritually inclined and I create a lot of energy from my daily practice of meditation into my creation.

Each of the patterns is a combination and collision of vibrant, dynamic colors from iridescent rich colors that I formulate on my unique style of mixing in variations. Each little detail work is done with perfection with blends of rich colors that mesmerize your eyes and therefore creates a happy feeling in mind.

I work on a fusion of traditional and modern designs that employs an array of colors, patterns and a uniquely different style altogether and some of the continuous lines and curves truly flowing, like the sweet flowing thoughts of my mind. My artwork takes ample patience to create, is abstract, yet it could easily be interpreted by a narrative that can be described as romantic and dreamy and is psychedelic in some manners. I call all this as Artmantras and so I named my website Artmantras.com. The word mantra has two parts: man – which is the root of the Sanskrit word for mind, and tra – which is the root of the word for instrument. Artmantras is, therefore, an instrument of the mind which can serve to enter a deep state of creativity and rejuvenation.

I do tons of East-Indian Folk Paintings inspired from Madhubani- A 2500 years Folk Painting technique from East India and Henna Patterns as well along with my own style of psychedelic modern traditional fusion style that a uniquely different style altogether. I also do lots of East Indian Motifs, I paint on Rice-paper painting with colorful East-Indian Spices and acrylics, I work with sand-painting, Fiber-art, foil-work, ceramic detailing, Sola-Wood work-done with razors and much more. I am very passionate about painting peacocks because of lots of colors. I would like to keep promoting colors of happy life through my artwork and I will always keep painting spice of my colorful life with happy colors spreading joy round. Happy colors bring happy thoughts.

At present, I am busy teaching art to small children at my home based studio which I enjoy immensely. I am truly thankful that my artwork is a direct reflection of my positive energy and vitality that I bring to my canvas during my moments of creation and that, I have motivated people in many ways through my artwork.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it is an adventure to what I am doing and I am doing the best that I love the most. There is always been struggles however, the will to forge is the solution. I am not born and raised in America. That itself is a long journey learning new things every day, although it’s almost been 19 years now. You have to do what you feel you are best in doing and you love the most and later, magic follows you. My journey in this country has been blessed although, I had to work so hard towards my art and creative journey. I am very thankful to everyone for enjoying and supporting my creation.
