Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Hamm.
Hi Andrew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ace of spades collection
Last February the designer Andrew Hamm AKA Drew Hamm officially designed my first fall/winter collection. I named it the “Ace of Spades” collection, which is based off the idea of having mental clarity. During winter 2022, I was in a bad head space and really didn’t have time to nor was I in the mood to create due to the negativity around me. That’s why I decided to base this collection off mental clarity because having a clear mind and the right people around you are undefeated. Ace of spades stands for highest value, new beginnings, and a fresh start as well as indicating good luck and fortune. A form of having mental clarity for me is listening to music most of the time because a lot of artists put their pain or emotions into their music as I put it into my clothes.
Few of the pieces from the collection’s artwork focuses more on the back of the products representing the people who turned their backs on me or didn’t believe in me. I added specific pieces to show that the past is the past and to leave all negative things behind you, including people. My luxury streetwear brand is labeled “Dreux’ Hamm,” which is Drew spelled in a French way, standing for brave, and Hamm is my last name that stands for powerful. My brand originated riverside of Fort Worth, TX, in 2021. I always had an eye for fashion growing up but loved playing basketball more, so I decided to pursue that instead. Once I put the ball down, I finally discovered my real purpose, and that was designing clothes. This summer after the collection was finished, we hosted our first-ever trunk show and had over 200 RSVPs for the event in Houston. For the future of my brand, I am trying to bring luxury streetwear back to the streets where it has originated. My spring/summer 24’ collection “Art of War” is already being created, and we will be previewing it this upcoming winter.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Since I started creating my life has changed. Creating has came with many up and downs in 2020, I had the vision to bring my own designer brand to life but didn’t have the funds because I was still chasing my pro basketball career and was hardly working to make money was mostly in the gym working on my craft Once my family went through a divorce in 2020 it pushed me to take a new route to create income to help my mom as soon as possible. In 2021 I left Houston with $200 dollars to my name with ideas with Dreux’ Hamm and to start my fashion career. During this time, I was in a very toxic relationship and also was surrounded by toxic people who didn’t want anything out of life. Being around that pushed me away for my goals that I had for myself because I was more worried about making other people around me happy. So, leaving Houston and wanting to do better for myself and family brought a lot of hate and lost friendships. People I thought loved me never wanted to see me win like I wanted to see them win. In 2022 I got deeper into designing details and material more and which helped me upgrade my brand more to be able release my first-ever F/W collection 2023. During this project, I decided to base this off mental clarity. So, I needed to go get some mental clarity for myself. I went Utah on a men’s retreat to put all demons and pass trauma to bed. I got rid of bad habits to just to have a healthy and clear mind moving forward toward my fashion career. Today, I’m still trying to learn how to evolve more and create even better designs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently still working a 9-5. I am independent adjuster for insurance firms here in the DFW area. I currently work at Pilot Catosphre in Fort Worth, Texas. I have been a manager here over the last 6 months. This job has taught me how to manage a team more than ever, a skill I needed when it comes to my designer brand Dreux’ Hamm because I’m constantly hosting events and having a team help me. My job role is to make sure my team is helping each customer with their claim for their vehicle the best way possible.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is happiness. If you can wake up every day and love what you do and have the right people around, you that’s success. Success is also how far you get not the money you make… I like to tell people do what you need to do today to make tomorrow better. Success also is if you can pay your bills, have a home to go to doing what you love, and you have peace; that is success, especially if you can afford to get a haircut once a week you are winning. We look at success at what materialistic things we have or how much money we have. At the end of the day, none of that stuffs matter your purpose does.
