Meet Asia-Ashley Joseph of Theknowledgeableother in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia-Ashley Joseph.

Asia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was younger my mom would send me on summer trips to Jamaica with my best friend. I didn’t know how much I loved to travel back then. On a lot of my flights when I was younger I’d find myself pulling out my phone and writing poetry. I always loved to write. In 2013 I moved to Frisco from New York and I remember someone telling me that traveling from DFW was so cheap I could probably afford to go back every weekend.

Instead of constantly traveling to New York I decided to start traveling any and everywhere that was reasonable to book a flight to, I didn’t want to limit myself to only going back to New York. I started making it a goal to travel three new places every year and in between, I’d go places I’d already been to but wanted to visit again. I started meeting my friend’s places like Morocco, Ecuador, Boston, California and the list goes on. Any consecutive days I could get off from work I’d be on a plane somewhere.

The more I traveled the more I realized so many people had never been anywhere, let alone experienced other cultures. I realized I’d taken beaches for granted for so long because living in Frisco I learned so many people had never even seen a beach. I’d often hear people say they couldn’t afford to travel the way I did. I felt the opposite. I was a College student traveling for leisure between my work and school schedule while paying for school. I thought everyone could travel on a budget and they just didn’t know-how. I kept feeling like it was my job to teach them and I knew I could do it through writing.

In November of 2018, I went to Chicago. I met a girl at a restaurant who had never been to Chicago. I had never been there before either, but I had a whole list of things I wanted to try so I shared them all with her. She asked me what my website or YouTube was so she could follow my travels and I didn’t have one at the time. That motivated me to get started. When I got home I wrote my first blog post and published it within a few days despite how scared I was. I knew if I wanted my blog to be successful I had to be consistent and that’s exactly what I’ve done.

The more I started blogging, the more I wanted to help people with more than just traveling. I decided to start hosting events to get people connected. I threw my first Creative Networking Brunch in Brooklyn in August 2019 and I plan to throw many more events in different locations to get creative’s together to support one another.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, this journey has gone a lot smoother than I would’ve ever imagined. Before I made my blog no one knew I was planning on doing it so I wasn’t expecting much support. When I posted my first blog so many people supported me by reposting and putting my link in their Instagram bios. The support I’ve gotten in the last year has been the same from when I first started. I’ve learned new things along the way and realized that people do use my tips for their travels.

When I threw my first event I thought it wouldn’t sell out but the day I posted it people reposted that as well. I oversold my first event and it was in another state. I think that was strictly due to all the support I’ve gotten along the way.

Needless to say, this journey has been a wonderful one. I’ve dedicated a lot of work to it. I work on it every single day and I do feel like it’s paying off.

Please tell us about your business.
My business specializes in a number of things. My primary focus is to help others step out of their comfort zone and explore within their financial means. I give tips on travel, packing, saving for trips, and fun things to do in Dallas when I’m not traveling. I keep my readers up on the hidden gems of any city I visit.

What sets my business apart from other blogs is that it’s primarily about what others can take from it rather than what I can get from it. Not only do I blog, but I genuinely enjoy supporting other local bloggers and creatives. I love that my events help everyone realize they all have something to bring to the table whether they are a Blogger, You tuber, creative, or nine-to-fiver, we all can teach someone something.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as genuinely being satisfied and fulfilled with what you do day in and day out. If you’re living up to your fullest potential and doing exactly what you enjoy, you’re successful. Success for me is more about the peace of mind and quality of life that you achieve from doing what you love.
