Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Fletcher Curb.
Hi Avery, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in photography began as a high school freshman when I picked up my first Canon DSLR camera. I fell in love with the craft and worked hard to purchase my own professional-grade camera during a Black Friday sale that same year. I attended West Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Industry and Business. During my final semester of college, I took a few photography courses, which inspired me to combine my passion for photography with my academic background in the equine industry.
In December of 2021, I founded Avery Fletcher Photography under my maiden name, which has quickly become the most fulfilling career I’ve had the pleasure of pursuing. Through this venture, I’ve had the opportunity to visit beautiful equestrian facilities and connect with talented riders and their horses across eleven different states. I challenged myself to learn both Canon and Nikon gear, so I currently shoot with both.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way. The growth I’ve experienced since launching this business has far exceeded what I ever thought or dreamed I’d be doing. I’m excited to continue improving and always looking to expand my skills. I believe you never stop learning and what fun is life if you hate your job?
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think one of the hardest struggles I have experienced as a photographer is the “Imposter Phenomenon” or imposter syndrome, which is feeling like you’re not as competent or talented as others think you are. It can be difficult at times to stop comparing myself and my work to other amazing photographers in the field. I try to remind myself of how far I’ve come and all the wonderful opportunities I have gotten to experience because someone saw something in me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer that specializes in equine (horse) photography. I travel across the United States photographing at horse shows such as The Hampton Classic in New York, Pony Finals in Kentucky, Devon in Pennsylvania, and many more. When I’m not photographing at horse shows, I am shooting portrait sessions of riders and their horses across Texas.
