Meet Bethany Jarrell of BethanyJarrell Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Jarrell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my first camera when I was ten or eleven, a little point and shooter that I carried with me. I think I mastered the art of the selfie before smartphones made it easier. When I graduated from high school I got a Canon Rebel T3i and took it when I traveled over that summer. I started with my family, setting up a tripod on our vacations and running into the shot at the last second. Real fancy.

People started noticing the pictures we posted and, to my surprise, began paying me to take their photos. I don’t necessarily feel like I have arrived yet. I work for my family’s general contracting company, Jarrell Signature, and I have developed a niche in real estate photography. While I still take whatever jobs people may call me up for, most of my photography centers on the real estate side.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely not been smooth. The most open door would be the one related to my current job. Other than that, I am still in the “I’ll take whatever people call me up for” phase. The hardest part has been finding out how I want to leave my fingerprints on a photo. When people look at an image, how do I make sure they see it and know it is mine? To be honest, I’m still working on that too.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with BethanyJarrell Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I love transformational photography and, while it is not easy telling the story of the before and after, I am learning. People, places, events. Each has its own set of challenges but I love the opportunity to be a part of the storytelling process.

Over the years I have tried my hand at just about every type of photography and I am narrowing down what I like best. My meat and potatoes would be real estate which allows me to tell the story of a space without the aid of human expressions. People are easier to manipulate and draw energy from. In my opinion, it’s a real test of skill, making a room look dynamic and vibrant in a way that pulls the viewer in to feel as though they could see themselves living there.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Dallas. I have lived in the area my whole life and really can’t imagine living anywhere else. I appreciate the whole DFW metroplex; from the food and the busyness to the fact that if you drive just half an hour you’d end up in the boonies.
