Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaycie Casso.
Jaycie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I credit all my success to that one bald Barbie many years ago. That is when my true talents were revealed. But my story as a licensed professional in the beauty industry started 11 years ago.
I completed cosmetology school at the top of my class and even made it on the Deans List. It was a very successful year of my life.
The first time I picked up my shears, it felt so natural, The way a hairstylist holds their shears is not normal by any means so for it to feel as natural as it did, I knew right away that this is what I was meant to do.
After graduating from cosmetology school and acing my Stateboard exams, I embarked on my journey into the beauty industry. I worked at multiple chain salon’s, mastering my skills and absorbing any info and techniques that I could. I am thankful for those small business’ as they have all provided much experience and extensive training.
Once my clientele grew to a confident number, I branched out into the suite-life. And it really is sweet. Making this choice has been the best for my clients, my family and myself as a whole. Now, I am able to let my artistic visions soar. There is no cap at the top of the beauty industry. It is forever growing, always leaving room to expand and grow into a better, more seasoned stylist. This journey of mine has been so rewarding and I have confidence in my work and my integrity and that I didn’t have at first. I feel like the “go-to-girl” for all fashion and style tips for my friends and I love it so much.
I am so blessed to be gifted with my artistry and plan to continue using this gift to make significant impacts in many lives. The sky is the limit for this country girl with a city flare.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are alot of stigmas that surround working in the beauty industry, and determining how to combat those stigmas, I believe, is what sets you apart. Hairstylist and Make-up Artist have an artistic vision that gives them the ability to change a persons life in as little as one hour. But some see this ‘talent’ as a side gig, or a trade that wasn’t difficult to learn and was easy to achieve, some even see it as a backup plan, yet in fact, it is far beyond that. It takes skills, brains, blood sweat and tears. (Literally… those shears are sharp!) a little bit of science and a whole lot of passion to succeed in this industry. The biggest challenge is to prove yourself. To set yourself apart, be unique and never stop learning.
Growing my clientele and branching out on my own was by far the scariest, nerve-wracking yet rewarding decision I have made. The sky is the limit and I know Im making a difference with my passion.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Birdy’s – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m also known as Birdy and I’m 31 years old. I have been making people beautiful for almost 11 years. I’m a Wills Point native-born and raised but have spent the last seven years in Dallas/Garland working to master my skills as a hairstylist, makeup artist, and extension specialist. My career as a hairstylist and makeup artist in Dallas has been rewarding, to say the least. I’ve taken extensive training through TIGI and received other certifications as well, managed a salon for some time and have opened my own suite.
I offer an array of services for women, children, and men… including on-trend, precision haircuts, and colors, hilights, specialty and fashion colors, balayage, ombre, baby lights, hand painting, braids, updos, hair and makeup for weddings and special occasions, special effects costume make up, also tape in, clip in and micro bead hair extensions, eyebrow tinting and waxing for brows and lips. I absolutely love sharing my techniques with my clients as well as educating them on all things necessary to keep their hair in the best shape possible. I think hair is the perfect way to express one’s self and I take joy in listening to my clients, providing professional services and helping them see their beauty inside and out!
What set’s me apart the most is my East Texan Twang, My silly quirks and my ability to ‘think outside the box’. It is extremely rewarding to know that I am a part of someone’s happiness. My client often tells me the main reason they keep coming back is not only for the results but because they feel like I genuinely care and take the time to listen. I firmly believe it is so important to listen to my client’s wants and needs and I take pride in being able to meet those expectations.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue establishing myself as a “Hidden Gem” always growing and learning new skills related to my profession. I plan to continue expanding my work as a MUA as well.
I credit my longevity thus far to my ability to constantly reinvent myself and stay current.
You can never stop learning in the beauty industry, it is ever-evolving and we must evolve with it.
