Meet Bob Spurlock of Cerveza Bros in Richardson and Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Spurlock.

Bob, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
That is a great question! The idea for the business came when I was typing an email and put two words together and thought… that sounds pretty cool. So I started looking into domains, etc and found my idea and name were available. Prior to that, I founded a 501 (c) 3 charity which raises money through a golf event and I have great relationships with my vendors. It turns out one of my relationships is with our apparel manufacturer and we became good friends. I discussed my idea and he was kind enough to introduce me to their manufacturer.
It took a couple of years to get our logo right and at that point, we started designing our first line of caps. Everything we do is custom and we are a big stickler on quality, design, fabrics, the whole process. We make sure all of our products from our caps to our t-shirts, our koozies and coasters are all made with only the best materials. Our cap and t-shirt manufacturer is the same manufacturer that you will find with some of most well known high-end brands on the market. Our koozies are made by the industry leader, Koozie themselves. Our coasters are actually made of tumbled marble. We use only the best and most respected manufacturers and do not use generic or imitation materials.
Each cap goes through an evolution of five or more prototypes before we to get the final product that we feel proud to take to market. We work very hard with our manufacturer to make sure that each and every product we release not only looks great but feels even better.
Once we were ready to go, we set up our website and started calling on better boutiques that we felt like would be a good partnership and match for each party involved. The very first boutique to carry our line was Indigo 1745 in the Bishops Art District in Dallas, TX. We are so thankful for the opportunity to work with Denise and Keith Manoy, the owners, and have a  special bond with them. Over time we have also been picked up in several high-end boutiques in the Marina at Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas; in Pano in Vail, Colorado and many other locations around the United States.
One of the fun and unique things we do is that when we travel we ALWAYS bring one or two samples of most everything we carry. We have met people in Mexico, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, you name it and when they see us wearing our caps and t-shirts they always ask “Where did you get that?” Some of the people own boutiques, have come off of cruise ships and others we just meet when we are out and about. It is one of the things that let us know we have a unique and great lifestyle brand. Another thing that we do to reach our purchasing partners is that we will periodically do festivals and special events. It is a great way to meet new people and see first hand what they think.
One of the things that we are most proud of is that we without a doubt have the most passionate and loyal customers. There are people that have every t-shirt in every design in every color, have multiple styles of caps, koozies, you name it. We have people that share pictures with us of them wearing our cap’s and t-shirts and koozies, etc. It is like a where is Waldo but it is where are the Cerveza Bros! We have a guy and his family from Serbia that has several of our caps and will take pics with cap at a places all over the world. Others do the same when they are at the beach, in the mountains, having cocktails. It is so cool to see where they take us!
We are excited to say that we have several other products that are going to be introduced in 2020 that are outside of the apparel arena. So, stay tuned!
Lastly, we are not just a company that makes caps, t-shirts and other products. We are a lifestyle brand! We live, breathe and are active in everything we do.
As we say………. “The Cerveza Bros are a couple of guys that are fiercely independent, like to live life to the fullest, challenge themselves and push their own internal and personal limits. Respectful of others but always letting everyone know they can come along for the ride.”
Offering only the most unique designs with the trademarked Cerveza Bros. name and logo.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not at all.  LOL!  It has definitely been a learning curve. My primary business is my Mergers & Acquisitions consulting business, The Spurlock Group, which I started in 2000 and is based out of Plano, TX. Cerveza Bros (TM) started as an idea and really morphed into a true lifestyle brand over the course of several years. The fact that I had little experience in the apparel and manufacturing and development of a complete product line was fun but also challenging.
I love the creative process that goes into designing and bringing to life a product or idea.  I believe that is one of our strong points. The actual marketing of the apparel and branding of the business is what is so unique. That has been the biggest challenge for our business. One point of satisfaction is that we really do have the most passionate, loyal and enthusiastic customers anyone could ask for.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The business of Cerveza Bros was truly a business that was founded on being fun, inclusive and a laid back brand. One that pushes you, challenges yourself and creates your own unique way.
I am the founder and main creative idea behind all of the products. I have a great team that I work with to bounce ideas off of and help give feedback on what the Cerveza Bros brand is trying to project. That includes my associates, manufacturing team and other fantastic business partners (vendors and other professionals) that I have met over the years in my other business ventures.
We are definitely known for the quality of our products. You can see the detail in our caps, the fabric of our t-shirts (which are crazy soft and durable), our tumbled marble coaster line and the fact we use only the best materials in everything that we make.
I think the thing that I am most proud and sets us apart as a company and business is when I see people of all ages wearing our caps and t-shirts from all over the world. They take pictures of themselves with our products when they are at home, at an event, when they travel and post them on social media and share with us and their friends. When we do events, we have people who come back, sometimes a year later, and say how happy they are with what the purchased and come back to add to their wardrobe and collection. I say this in all seriousness – when you purchase something from us, we are so thankful but most importantly you also become part of the Cerveza Bros family. It is a special bond. We mean that. 100%. We have met some many amazing people.
What were you like growing up?
I was born in Fort Worth, TX. My dad was in the Air Force and my mom was as well for a short period of time. Being an Air Force “brat”, I traveled all across the United States. I was very active in all sports. Baseball, basketball, football and golf. I was very passionate about baseball and basketball growing up and was very talented in baseball. Later on, I started focusing more on golf and was fortunate enough to get a golf scholarship to go to college when I graduated from high school in Mascoutah, IL.
Most people would say I am a very passionate person who likes to have a good time and is also a good friend. I believe in helping people and have been told I have a generous way. I definitely got from my mother. I love the beach, music, travel and anything outdoors. Searching for a good beer, tequila or rum is also something I do when traveling or I am out and about.
Pricing:
  • One thing we are definitely NOT is the 2 for $20 hat/t-shirt business.🙂

The Cerveza Bros brand and Bob Spurlock are the best of the best. I have known Bob through business for almost 15 years and I can vouch for the exceptional quality of his products and more importantly, his heart for people. Bob is highly creative and obsessed with every detail. He doesn’t take shortcuts. Period. I highly recommend every product in the Cerveza Bros line up. Lots of fun, highly wearable/usable and will for sure start some memorable conversations. Word of warning: The Cerveza Bros are known for pushing the boundaries, so prepare yourself for a little mischief. 😉

Great article – which accurately ‘sums up’ Bob as an individual … and the Cerveza Bros as both a product brand and, most importantly, a LIFESTYLE! Bob and I go all the back to our high school days … when and where we enjoyed the competition and camaraderie associated with being multi-sport ‘jocks!’ We also enjoyed an enduring bond and closeness with our ‘sizeable pack’ of like-minded friends. Bob carries that same competitive spirit and love for lasting relationships into the creation and production of every offering in the Cerveza Bros product line. Bottom line: Top quality, super well-made products that will immediately ‘turn heads’ … and invariably generate the question: “Where did you get that? … cuz I want one!” Cerveza Bros — Run with the big boys … or keep your butt on the porch!
