Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Fields.
Brandy, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
NurseWithPurpose is a brand that was created in February 2019. In January 2019, I failed my NCLEX examination. This test is to be taken a right after nursing school to receive your license to practice and I failed. I was very lost and didn’t know what to do at this point because I had my dream job secured and I wasn’t able to start because of my failed test results. Well, my manager held my position to start in July. Therefore I was able to retake my test start my career. At this point, I knew God was telling me something. He was having me wait for a specific reason. In the midst, I came up with NurseWithPurpose and its main goal is to educate, motivate, and inspire all aspiring nurses. Becoming a registered nurse has been the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life, but it was all worth it. I want to share my story with others and if I’m able to help one person reach their goal in becoming a nurse, then I have done my job.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has road has been far from smooth. I feel as though I got hit with every obstacle there was while going through this rigorous program. In March 2016, I lost my mother suddenly. I had just begun the program in January of that year and this tragic incident happened. That took a significant toll on me, but I was able to keep the faith and continue with the program. In Fall 2017, I failed my first class EVER in life, which meant that my graduation date was pushed back. I was very upset with myself, but after looking back at my life and what all I had gone through, I knew that it was okay and it was just a minor setback.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
NurseWithPurpose is a nursing brand. Its primary purpose is to educate, motivate, and inspire all aspiring nurses. Through this brand, I vlog on YouTube, where I have videos of nursing school advice, nclex, tips, and etc. Also, I hosted my first nursing event in the DFW area this past December 2019 called Road To RN Brunch! This event was geared towards individuals who have a desire to become a nurse. At the brunch, there were panel discussions, break-out sessions, and meet/greet activities. I think the thing that sets me apart from others is that my brand is realistic. I am authentic and give people the truth about my life and how I overcome obstacles. No, it is not easy and I am sure to tell individuals that, but if you trust the process, it will all be worth it.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Wow, over the next five to ten years, I honestly don’t know what to expect. I will like to increase my following and subscribers on my youtube channel. As far as events, the sky is the limit. After my first event, there were several individuals that reached out to me that wanted to collaborate and do similar things to help individuals reach theirs in becoming a nurse. I will like to say what exactly I want to see, but I feel as though God has something even bigger in store for NurseWithPurpose.
