Meet Brian Mann of Dynamic Sports Medicine in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Mann.

Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. I had a pretty tough upbringing but didn’t realize it as a kid. My father that raised me (didn’t know he wasn’t my biological father as a kid) wasn’t home much and my mother had some of her own battles she sadly still continues to fight. After having to repeat a year of high school due to excessive absences, I realized I had better figure something out if I wanted any shot at getting out of my hometown. I went on to play college golf at a small school and was actively seeking out mentors along the way. After meeting a successful chiropractor, I decided I would buckle down and do whatever it took to get through chiropractic college. Having a love for sports through the years, I began taking every soft tissue and additional sports training I could get my hands on. After grad school, I was able to stay in touch with and meet new doctors that continue to be very helpful to this day. I have been fortunate enough to take advantage of a few breaks handed to me that have allowed me to be a part of the PGA Tour Sports Medicine Staff and USA Swimming High-Performance Medical Team.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life has definitely not been a smooth road for me. For starters, I grew up in a trailer with six cats and five dogs that were rarely picked up after. We dealt with everything from having to borrow food to eat and our electricity being shut off to losing our first house; There was an incident when I was younger where my mom shot herself in our home and convinced me not to report it. Pretty quickly after I realized she had a serious problem and but I was always so afraid to scare my younger brother by telling him our mom wasn’t healthy. In 2009 my mother was in the middle of her ongoing battles with substance abuse and I was forced to get a protection order against her. At the time this was the most difficult thing I ever had to do. Once I was accepted to grad school and move to Dallas in December of 2009 it felt like I finally had an opportunity for a new beginning. I went on to meet my future girlfriend who is now my wife (Jinna) in grad school. Her being Korean and her parents not knowing we were dating were a bit of a struggle but that was small in comparison for what was to come. Our second son; Bowen, was born in June of 2017. At ten days old he was diagnosed with meningitis. Between his spinal tap, three-week stay in the hospital, uncertainty during and after, this is the most lost and drained I’ve ever been emotionally. I was truly a complete wreck while Bowen was sick.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dynamic Sports Medicine story. Tell us more about the business.
Our clinic is called Dynamic Sports Medicine. I am a sports chiropractor specializing in soft tissue. Our clinic prides itself on providing elite care to everyone that comes in the door. Each patient is treated as if they are an elite athlete. We also offer modalities and high tech equipment that no other clinic in the city of Dallas has.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is for leprechauns, and I’m not green. But I would be off my rocker to think I’ve done anything on my own. I’ve had breaks, help, life experiences, hardships, learning opportunities, and good people around me along the way. I would be stuck in the same cycle I grew up in if it weren’t for the grace of God.
