Meet Brian Martin of Invisibra in Addison Airport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Martin.

Brian bought Invisibra from the previous owner in 2014. After obtaining his degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of North Texas he began searching for the right business to either start or buy. After a few false starts he finally found Invisibra. Once he reviewed the business history and customer reviews he knew this was the business for him. Completing a period of due diligence and then a lot of paper work he was able to secure an SBA loan for the purchase. The previous owner stayed for 2 months and then retired with his wife to Ecuador. The transition was very smooth, previous customers continue to be very pleased with the service, and new customers are being added every month.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Brian compares purchasing an owner operated business to purchasing a doctor’s office. In the purchase Brian got the business name, materials, website, tools, etc. but ultimately the customers came for the previous owner’s experience and their relationship with him. The prior owner had almost 15 years’ experience and the level of service he delivered was second to none. The most difficult part of the transition was bringing Brian’s skills up to par with the prior owner in just two months. In fact, in the original purchase agreement the training period was only one month. After the one month was over Brian renegotiated to continue the training for another month because he didn’t feel he was ready. By the end of the second month, he knew he could deliver the same level of service, albeit at a slightly slower pace.

Please tell us about Invisibra.
Invisibra installs a virtually invisible urethane film over high impact areas of cars to protect them from rock chips, sand, road debris, and bug acid. Generically, it is called paint protection or clear bra. It has come a long way since those yellow cracked strips of 3M tape on the fronts of hoods. Now most high-end cars in Dallas have them and you’d never know by looking at them.

Correctly repainting a Ferrari, Porsche or other high-end vehicle for resale can cost up to $5,000, not to mention the effect repainting has on the car’s value. An average clear bra installation will cost about $500-$2,000 depending on how much you cover.

What really sets Invisibra apart from the competition is how they apply this film. All of the film is hand trimmed and owner installed. Meaning instead of being cut out on a computer with wide margins for errors and exposed edges; Invisibra can stretch a large blank over a part and then trim and wrap all the edges. This prevents the edges from collecting dirt or lifting in the wind/rain/wash. A poorly installed film can have many blemishes and be quit an eye sore. In fact, it is not uncommon for Brian to remove and redo a brand-new competitor’s installation.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Brian says he would’ve added more training time from the previous owner but other than that things have gone pretty smoothly (*then he nervously knocked on wood with a chuckle).

Pricing:

  • 12″ of hood and fender protection would be $325
  • A full bumper would cost about $525
  • A full hood would cost about $525
