Meet Brie Washington of Briesly’s Boutique in Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Washington.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2011, I was working a corporate job and after five years was notified I would be laid off, I already had a vacation to Hawaii scheduled so I decided to go ahead and go. While sitting on the beach, I felt very inspired and inclined to not go back to corporate America but to open a small business instead. It was May of 2011.

I came home from my trip and immediately went into planning mode, I started interviewing people in various small businesses to gain as much information as possible about how to run a brick and mortar location (however no matter what anyone says, you can’t learn to run a business without trying it yourself), no shortcuts! I revisited some of my old college business books, worked on building a financial plan and eventually constructed a business plan. In September of 2011, I opened my first brick and mortar location in Colleyville, TX. I spent five years in that location, establishing a customer base and learning the retail industry and what works for me.

Then in May of 2016, I relocated my business to The Shops at Lakeside and have been curating styles and continuing to mold the Briesly’s Brand ever since. In December 2018, I proudly expanded my business into beauty and created and launched my very own lipstick line. The line is happily produced locally by another woman-owned small business. Briesly’s Boutique supports other local brands and women in business by partnering in design or selling their products. I currently spend several days a week in-store styling and meeting new customers. Everyday is an opportunity to form a new relationship. I absolutely love my job and while it is very challenging at times, I can’t see myself doing anything else.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles have been the ever-changing economy and keeping the business on a growth path. Not allowing personal life woes to distract from having a positive daily outlook, you have to believe in what you’re doing and keep working toward your goals even when things aren’t great.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Briesly’s Boutique – what should we know?
We sell contemporary women’s clothing bags, art, and accessories. We specialize in jewelry, a lot of the pieces we house are from local designers and we partner/design with them to ensure we have customized products. I’m proud that we have some of the same customers we had when we first opened the doors in 2011. That means we continue to evolve, sell great products and have built strong relationships with customers. We have a very diverse staff and we create a unique and honest experience for each buyer. If you don’t look good, you don’t feel good and that will translate out in the world. So it’s important for us to give you real, truthful feedback so that you buy a product you love. Simple way to keep customers loyal and coming back. We provide a better overall shopping experience to beat out the competition.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To stay true to yourself and work harder than everyone around you. Do the things others won’t and do it with a smile.
