Meet Canon Herring of DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Canon Herring

Hi Canon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At a young age, my dad taught me the foundations of music. Growing up, he nurtured the gifting and calling he saw and I owe a lot of what I do today to him. As a child, I treated music as a hobby, but in my senior year of high school, I realized I wanted music to be my career. I always loved listening to the music in movies. I found that I hardly cared for what was happening on the screen because of my love for the music. With an already strong background in composing classical music, I decided to pursue being a film composer and music producer. In class I would be sending emails upon email hoping to land a job making music for somebody’s film. With dedicated work, I got my first job. I started building my experience and repertoire of music with smaller jobs. I kept reaching out and adding onto the musical base I had built for myself. To this day, I am doing the same thing. Even after scoring documentaries, commercials and short films, I am still reaching out, putting in the effort to make my dream and passion further become my career. I owe everything to my family that supports me, and God who guides my hands and heart.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never easy building a career. Of course, it requires hard work and dedication, but there are always challenges in life that further add to its difficulty. For me, I struggle with very intense sicknesses in my body. My health is very poor. But despite the challenge of pain, physically and emotionally, I persevere on.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in instrumental music that is purposely written to a film, video, or story on the screen. I compose pieces that fit the emotional needs of a scene, whether it is something happy, sad, or very intense. Although I have a lot of experience with electronic instrumentation in scores, I have a unique compositional mind for orchestral instruments. I am most proud of my soundtracks with beautiful strings and piano accompaniments. I believe what sets me apart is the way my mind pieces together parts and dynamics in music. I have a unique compositional style, my own fingerprint in music that I believe is distinguishable.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Like I said before, I owe all I am and all I do to my amazing family that supports and loves me unconditionally, and God who is the original creator, and who sparks my desire to create. Without them my life would be void.
