Today we’d like to introduce you to Canon Sawyer.
Canon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up with a mom whose favorite words are “pictures last a lifetime”, I fell in love with capturing memories, moments, and the precious people in my life from a young age. Several years ago, while attending TCU, my love for photography turned into a small business after a precious sorority sister asked me to take her senior photos. Little did I know that “yes” was the start of a career that I would soon fall head over heels in love with. Looking back, I could never have imagined what the Lord had in store for my future. At the time, I was studying Strategic Communication (an advertising/PR blended major) with the full intent of pursuing that career head-on after graduation. I accepted a corporate job while continuing to shoot photography on the side. As the months went on, I noticed the way my heart lit up in a completely different way when my camera was in my hand. After endless prayers, hundreds of clients trusting me with their most precious moments and memories, and a community that has shown me the meaning of rallying around one another, there is not a doubt in my mind that the Lord had been preparing my heart for this leap of faith as an entrepreneur and business owner from day one. From there, I launched my full-time photography career and started Canon Elizabeth Photography, and I am head over heels in love with it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I grew up a book worm with my academics always at the forefront of my priority list. I graduated Valedictorian of my department in college thanks to prayer, Einstein’s Coffee, and a support system like none other. That said, the decision to forgo the career I had studied so hard to follow my heart and passion was a major decision. That leap, and the fruits that have come from it, are a testament to the beautiful reward of following the path the Lord puts in front of us. Ultimately, I found a career that brings out the best in me, keeps me giggling, and allows me to invest in the most precious people each and every day.
Please tell us about your business.
What makes me unique as a photographer is the variety of services I offer and my turn-around time (typically 24 hours). I shoot everything from businesses, weddings, bloggers, newborns/maternity, real estate, concerts, families, products & apparel, graduates, boutiques, proposals, sporting events, restaurants, and everything in between. What I love most about this is that it allows me to celebrate my clients at every turn. I feel like I truly get to do life with everyone that steps in front of my camera, and that’s just about the sweetest blessing I could ever imagine!
