Meet Chariti Dawson of Beat by Chariti Sinae in Prosper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chariti Dawson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I graduated from Camden County High School in Kingsland, Georgia in 2015, I was very lost and just unsure about my next step. I had no idea what college I was going to attend or the major I wanted to take, so I just picked something I knew fairly well. I decided I would attend Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida. My major would be journalism because I love to write but it’s not my passion. However, with the help of my parents, I quickly reconsidered. They encouraged me to think about attending cosmetology school because I had grown up watching my mother do hair, who is also a licensed cosmetologist. I loved doing hair, I loved it more than writing but it still wasn’t my passion. I was still unclear about what my passion was exactly. So, in September of 2015, I decided to attend Paul Mitchell the school of Orlando, Florida to pursue a career in cosmetology. The program was very fun, challenging and overall learning experience and in just 11 months, I completed the program. However, closer to the end of my journey I figured out that hair was not at all what I wanted to do as my career. My sister introduced me to my passion by telling me I should check out these beauty gurus on YouTube known as the ”GlamTwinz334.” Which I should’ve taken as a sign right then because my sister doesn’t like anything about makeup. That day was the start of it all for me, I immediately became hooked on watching all different types of makeup tutorials, fashion & beauty hauls, first impressions, product reviews, skin & natural hair care routines, anything that had to do with fashion and beauty!

April 7, 2016, I decided to make my own beauty channel on YouTube called “Chariti Sinae” where I upload Fashion, Lifestyle & Beauty videos. While I also pursue my career as a makeup artist in Dallas, Texas and I’ve been doing so since September of 2016. I decided to move to Dallas after visiting my parents over the summer. I fell in love with how beautiful the city is and it being so full of opportunity. Moving here has opened so many doors for me to expand my knowledge and skill for artistry. I’ve had the privilege to gain a ton of experience by working at places like Sally Beauty, Ulta Beauty, Sephora, and Mac Cosmetics. Working in environments surrounding the beauty industry has kept me inspired and focused on my goals. A little over three years later and my passion and love for my craft still remain the same.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, however, that’s not at all what I expected. Once I figured out what my passion was and I decided to pursue it, I set very realistic expectations for myself. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, I knew it would take a lot of time, energy, consistency, patience and focus. Some days, less than others, I lack in all of those areas. My sister always gives me the best advice. One day, she told me, It’s easy to be motivated but it’s not easy staying motivated. Since then, I’ve figured out how to keep myself going and staying positive throughout my process. Days when I’m feeling discouraged and I don’t really feel like being productive, I think about what I could accomplish within those 24 hours. I think about what could happen if I decide to simply work on my craft today. The idea of not knowing the possible opportunities that could come out of each day is what keeps me going. I would never know and the only way to find out is by constantly putting myself out there, constantly putting out my work for the world to see. All it takes is a post on Instagram, uploading a video to Youtube or a simple interaction with the right person. Not knowing when my time is but knowing that each day I’m one step closer, I choose to wake up every morning and decide that I’m going to work today.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’ve been a Makeup Artist for going on four years now, known as “Beats by Chariti.” Being an artist, I absolutely love to enhance the beauty that already exists, for so many people. For my clients, it’s a big transformation that they love to watch take place. They love to see the difference between how they looked before and how they look after. Their reaction to that is just so priceless for me, It always brings me a bit of confirmation. I absolutely love doing other people’s eyebrows, eyebrows can really make or break a look. I love to credit myself for doing phenomenal brows, lol, I feel like it’s my specialty. It really is quite therapeutic for me, I would have to say that it is my favorite part of doing my clients makeup. However, being a makeup artist is just one half of my career. I spend the other half creating fashion & beauty videos for my YouTube Channel called “Chariti Sinae.” A part of waking up and going to work every day, for me, means waking up and getting in front of my camera for most of my day. I love creating new content and interacting with my subscribers. I believe the hardest part about what I do is, constantly putting myself out there not knowing what to expect in return. Putting my hard work out for a bunch of strangers can be hard at times. The internet is very powerful and people can be really harsh. Everyone has an opinion, some nicer than others. I think the natural thing to do, for most people, is to conceal parts of themselves because they’re afraid of being judged. That’s not me, I constantly put one hundred percent of myself into my work and will continue to no matter what. In an industry full of so many people doing the same thing as me, full of so many opinions, love, hate, and criticism, I think the biggest thing that sets me apart from everybody else is simply staying true to who I am.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think my proudest moments are when brands reach out to me because they want to collaborate. Simply because it gives me confirmation that I am on the right track. I work so hard on my social media and I work hard to get myself noticed. So, when a brand is able to see that and acknowledge that, it’s an amazing feeling. To me, that means people are noticing my social media platforms and they appreciate my work. When strangers grow to love you over the internet, it really is an incredible feeling.
