Meet Charles Franklin of Weekend Warriors Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Franklin.

Hi Charles, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been drawn to new experiences, positive energy, and connecting with people. Even as a child, I showcased my entrepreneurial spirit by setting up iced tea stands on the sidewalk.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Business Administration and later obtained my MBA in 2017. By the start of 2018, as a recent graduate, I found myself with free weekends and a desire to make productive use of my time while earning extra income. Exploring Craigslist’s gigs section, I noticed a high demand for various odd jobs in the community, sparking an idea to create a business that serves as a single reliable resource for addressing these needs.

This idea gave rise to Weekend Warriors, hence the name. We started a community-oriented business dedicated to tackling tasks like snow removal, mulching, mowing, weeding, and other odd jobs. However, as I gained more professional experience in my career, I sought to transition the business into a more specialized and refined niche.

With a longstanding passion for events, music, and cultivating vibrant energy, I shifted Weekend Warriors’ focus to solely event support services. Today, as Weekend Warriors Events, we specialize in providing exceptional, extra hands support for event management. Our team assists clients in ensuring their events run smoothly, offering trusted and skilled support for a variety of event-related tasks.

We aim to establish ourselves as a premier resource for reliable and professional event support in the DMV (D.C., Maryland & Virginia) and surrounding areas, continuing to deliver high-quality service and value to our clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Business ownership was definitely not a smooth road but at the same time it wasn’t a rough journey either. I actually enjoyed it. It has been and continues to be full of emotions and exciting challenges. It has opened up my eyes to new venues and locations, I have been able to meet awesome people and allowed me to invest into others as well. Taking on this journey has allowed me to experience certain situations that I probably would not have normally.

One of the biggest struggles early on was getting people to trust a newer service and proving the value we bring to the table. Since we were still building our reputation, a lot of it came down to consistency, professionalism, and delivering strong results so people felt confident working with us.

Another challenge was finding and building a reliable team. In the event management industry, having dependable people who can be adaptable and represent the company well is huge. I am open to giving people opportunities to shine so over time I was able to build a solid team from all different backgrounds.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Weekend Warriors Events?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think luck can influence timing and opportunities, but I don’t believe its the main factor behind success. In my experience, the more effort, consistency, and relationships I build, the more “lucky” opportunities seem to appear. I definitely try and put myself in the most strategic positions where I can move forward in one way or another and I feel like people have seen that hustle.

Whether that be traveling long commutes, waking up early morning, staying up late night for clients event support needs, or attending vendor socials to network, it all plays a role in long term success. I’ve had moments where things lined up perfectly, and I’ve also had challenges that forced me to rethink and improve how I operate. Looking back, even the “bad luck” moments taught me valuable lessons that ended up helping me later in life and business.
