Meet Chris Whitten of Whitten Productions in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Whitten.

Chris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I have enjoyed creating, from taking photos to building things with my hands. In college, I took a photography elective and I was hooked. I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing for the rest of my life. I quickly transferred to Savannah College of Art and Design to study photography and all that it involves.

After graduating and receiving a BFA in Photography, I moved to Dallas. It didn’t take long until I was working with many photographers and directors in Dallas on the commercial production side of the business. Fast forward to today and I am working with large brands like Toyota, Lexus, Nike, Pizza Hut and many more. I work as a producer to help companies tell stories through the media of photography and video.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working for yourself is definitely a bumpy road. But, I have always focused on learning from those struggles to become better. I won’t bore you with the details, however, I do learn something new every single job I do. In video and photo production, nothing is ever the same, and that is what drives me.

What were you like growing up?
Ahhh, that was forever ago… Growing up, I was an outgoing kid and always taking things apart to see how they work. I spent a ton of time outside; that is where my love for the outdoors comes from. I would often take my parent’s camera and take photos of anything and everything. I try to do the same every day as an adult.
