Meet Cinthya Duran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cinthya Duran.

Cinthya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started designing spaces as early as like seven years old – in my head of course. We moved and our new bathroom had pink tile everywhere (Yes, everywhere!) I remember being fascinated by it and wondering why they picked that specific pink tile. That was when my interest for interiors began. I was constantly re-arranging my room and giving my mom unsolicited advice about our home decor. As I grew older, my first thought when walking into new spaces was “How would I re-design this?” Never in a judgey way, I just really enjoyed challenging my little design brain. Every night as I was laying in bed, I would design a space in my head that I had seen that week, I still do this sometimes! My best ideas come at night as I’m falling asleep.

While in college, I got internship at a Design Firm and I was hooked. I loved it so much I didn’t even mind that I wasn’t getting paid! After my internship, I was offered a position as a design assistant and eventually got the opportunity to design a few spaces myself. I learned so much not only about design but marketing as well. I went on to try a few different opportunities but I made my way back to my true passion, Interior Design.

I started taking on a few design projects in 2018 and earlier this year I launched Cinthya Duran Design! I simply couldn’t ignore my passion anymore. I truly feel like I was born to do this.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest struggle has been self-doubt. It’s so scary to chase your dreams! I feel like everyone has faced “imposter syndrome” at one point or another but I think it’s important to remind yourself that you are just as deserving as those who have done this before you.

Living in this social media time is amazing but can also be very challenging. Something I have struggled with is comparing my journey and accomplishments to everybody else’s. It’s so easy to feel like you “should have” accomplished XYZ by now especially when you’re looking at everyone’s perfect Instagram feed. The best advice I have heard is “Keep your head down and work your ass off” and that’s what I have been trying to do! I think everything changed when I realized I am only in competition with myself, there’s plenty for everyone.

Please tell us about Cinthya Duran Design.
My business is Cinthya Duran Design. I am based in Fort Worth and I specialize in designing both residential and small commercial spaces as well as real estate staging.

I believe everyone deserves a chic home, no matter what your budget is! Your space really affects your mood and overall mental health. To have a place that makes you feel good is so valuable and I love designing spaces that people are excited to be in and can decompress after long days in our stress-filled world.

I love designing all kinds of spaces – light and airy or moody and dramatic. I love playing with textures and color. I especially love to add unexpected pieces to all my spaces. My goal is always to create a space that is functional for my clients and their lifestyle but is still chic and collected.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! Everything has prepared me for where I am today. That’s probably a very cheesy answer but it’s true!
