Meet Crecencia Guerrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crecencia Guerrero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I learned how to braid at the age of 12 by my dear friend Markesha. Once I executed the concept of braiding, I began monetizing from the age of 14 years on up. Eventually, I stopped braiding and I started working corporate full-time. I was a Regional Sales Account Manager at a software company for six years. During the last two years of my employment, the managers kept avoiding my request to change my schedule. They gave two new people the schedule I had been requesting which really bothered me. After that, I planned, saved, and braided part-time for the next ninety days so that I could build my clientele. At the end of my ninety days, I quit corporate and I began to braid full time. Three years later, with the help of COVID relief, I was able to expand my business by opening my first salon, Twist & Twine Studio. In addition to the salon, I host a braid training class once a month. And, I recently published a training book on how to braid for people who want to learn at their own pace.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was smooth in the beginning; however, elevation hasn’t been as smooth, and here’s why… A user-friendly website made it easy for clients to book. Organization made it easy to complete each job in a timely manner. Consistency and good work ethic formed recurring clients which formed a guaranteed set amount of income. Discipline required living within my budget. All that was easy but here’s the struggle…

Patience has been the most difficult procedure. Once I invested into my salon, I found myself questioning my decision to invest. After 3 months, I still hadn’t filled the booths which caused a bit of discouragement. I defeated the negative thought and feeling by telling myself that I needed to be patient and continue to promote to fulfill my goals.

Learning from my mistakes and trying again was another struggle. My first time trying to host a braid class failed. I didn’t know why but I was discouraged to try again. Fast forward two years later, a positive influencer/mentor named Glam by Cham encouraged me to try again. She supported and taught me that I needed to use my support such as clients and friends to help promote and reach my goals.

I’ve learned that faith, patience, perseverance, support, and wisdom are five key components to have during your struggling moments.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur and hairstylist. I am the owner of Twist and Twine Studio. I lease booths to braiders at a weekly rate. I am also a braid instructor. I instruct beginner and advanced braiders on how to perform, execute, and perfect their braid craft. Lastly, I am a braider, this is what I am mostly known for. I service both female children and adults. My skills consist of natural braids, feed-in braids, and knotless braids of all sizes.
