Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Godinez.
Daisy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Daisy and Dog Barktique from wanting to create stylish pet-friendly apparel and accessories. I began taking sewing lessons and becoming obsessed with figuring out how to make my ideas come to life. First, I began making bandanas, we now have expanded into pet onesies, pet t-shirts, pet collared button-ups, pet hoodies and more!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The start-up of a new business isn’t always smooth sailing but with it being a passion and having a supportive team, it is possible! With so many dog businesses booming and all the pet-friendly patios, apartments and/or businesses around the Dallas area, it was important that we try and stand out from other pet apparel brands.
Please tell us about Daisy and Dog Barktique.
Daisy and Dog Barktique is an online pet barktique that offers pet apparel and accessories. We specialize in Luxury Pet Bandanas that are made from fabrics brought to you from around the world and unique pet t-shirts that are sure to give you and others a laugh. Our pet t-shirts have been quite the talk at our pop-up and vendor events, mainly because of their sayings. I realized as I try to shop around for funny, modern, fun or up to date apparel for my pups that everything I found was rather, uhm, uptight and boring I shall say? That’s when I decided to screenprint some funny but relatable sayings onto the pet t-shirts and hope that others found them as fun as I did. Which thank goodness, they did! Being that I come from Latin descent, I incorporate the Spanish language onto some of the pet t-shirts as well hoping to expand and reach some of the Latin dog-loving cultures as well.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be growing up in New York with my childhood long-haired chihuahua, Tohui, My parents would always let me hold his leash while we walked him around the neighborhood and took him to the beach with us on weekends. Growing up in such a big city helped me not only to dream big but encouraged me to put in work and make those dreams come true!
