Meet Dana Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Jackson.

Dana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my journey towards defining who I am, learning to accept and embrace body positivity hasn’t always been easy. As a teen, I struggled with keeping myself acclimated with trends amongst my peers due to being a Curvyy kid! I often complained to my late, beautiful great-grandmother and mother about not being able to easily find clothing like my peers. They would say “Baby you were born to stand out.” At that age, I just wanted to fit in. I would shop with my great-grandmother, at Colberts. We would shop for hours, she set the fashion trend for myself, and other women in my family. My mother often told me “Dana, money can’t buy class nor style, style comes from within. “ Those words never parted ways with me!

Years later, after being ignored, the plus size community became the new trend! Although the demanded was high, retailers and local boutiques ignored us for decades. Because of this, In 2018, I was inspired to start Dana J’s closet. Plus size women were able to shop in my closet at a discounted rate. After many inquiries in 2019, I officially launched my plus size online boutique Curvyy Slayer Collection, catering to other women who struggled with finding sexy, exquisite and fashionable plus size clothing.

I always express, no matter if you are trying to build your business, find a job, impress vendors, attract influential contacts or simply make new successful friends…Know that a powerful, attractive and visible brand is the key!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some weeks are brutal, however, I acknowledge that nothing comes easy. Regardless of how things are going, I remain positive, remembering that I’m blessed. Realizing now through trial and error, there will be obstacles that will come at you full force. The goal is to remain focused and positive. I’ve never met a business owner that has led an easy business without some type of trial. Developing your brand requires you to find your authentic voice. When you find your voice, your audience begins to react positively. From this, you’ll find self-confidence building in a meaningful way.

Please tell us about your business.
At Curvyy Slayer Collection we break all the rules by considering ACTUAL WOMEN, not just what society deems women to be. Our goal is to execute flawless looks, unique sense of style, and versatile plus size clothing. I’m proud that I’ve finally stepped out on faith and put my heart into something that I love to do! The Curvyy Slayer experience is like no other!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My clients are confident, their happiness isn’t dependent on other people. Confidence will radiate, which forces people to like your Curvyy style. Curvyy Slayer’s future home will be a storefront. I get dozens of new Facebook and Instagram connections every day. People look at my profiles, follow me and want to know more about me. Soon, my goal is to be more accessible. I have many aspects of my brand that I’m excited to share.
