Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Spaeth.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thank you for having me! I spent 6 years in the mortgage industry, managed a call center of 200+ employees, and finally ventured into the world of entrepreneurship. It began with website design and small business startup consulting.
While doing this, a Paintless Dent Repair company asked for my help in California. I ventured west and learnt the ins and outs of the auto hail repair business. When I finished helping them develop processes, and payroll, it hailed big time back home in DFW! I quickly set up my own business here in Dallas, subleasing half of a body shop to work out of a breakroom.
Fast forward a year and a half, and I am on my third move, now with 3 locations, over 30 staff, and over 1000 happy dent free customers!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hail damage is never smooth ;). Learning to work primarily with sub-contractors has its challenges. You have to keep them excited to be part of the team so that they only want to work for you. Compensation analytics and conflict resolution have been a struggle at times.
Another major issue is actually getting real estate for this business. No one wants to lease to the hail repair industry because the business has a bad rep as “storm chasers” where they come in for a couple months and leave, often times cheating the customer along the way.
We are a year-round, locally owned and operated BBB accredited shop!
Dent Mechanic Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are most proud of our connection to the community. We are the preferred PDR shop for the Plano Police. We are heavily involved in the community for our work with the Plano West and North Texas Pioneer rotary clubs. We donated all of the “Thank a Cop” banners in every Plano police precinct after the Dallas shooting last year. We delivered food and toys for the “Christmas Cops” drive. We’ve donated countless hours and food boxes to Minnie’s food pantry.
In addition to these things, we offer a service – that if you have insurance is $0 out of pocket. It’s a no brainer. We offer free rental cars, discounted repairs (reduced or eliminated need to pay deductible) and we have unmatched customer service.
Our customers have and always will come first!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is enjoying work and improving the life of myself and others. The more success a business has, the more likeminded people you find yourself surrounded with, which ultimately furthers the growth of everyone. Watching myself and others grow is success. There is no end to personal growth, only quitting.
