Today we’d like to introduce you to David Tribble.
Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our studio is proudly located inside The Epic — Grand Prairie’s state-of-the-art arts and entertainment complex. This landmark facility offers easy access, secure parking, and a professional environment that matches the high standards of our studio. A studio that has been waiting for its chance to shine and be a part of the music scene in DFW and beyond! Whether you’re local or traveling in, recording at The Epic places you in the heart of creativity and culture in Grand Prairie, TX. located just outside of Fort Worth.
My name is David Tribble and my partner and head engineer Jake Kerley took over this beautiful space back in June of 2025. We came in and gave it a name and a brand that we are both proud to attach to such a great place inside the Epic Rec. Artists can come and record and make great music with us through our fully analog Rupert Neve 5088 console. Jake and I both bring a lot of experience and hours making and playing music as artists and musicians ourselves, and now more than ever we are both fully invested in the music community with the resources and recording space to grow and help bring stories and songs to life. Which is the real reason we stepped into this studio last year to begin with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The studio has had it’s share of kinks to work through and after no being used for so many years, except for a few small city projects here and there, including a generous offer from the City of Grand Prairie to let me come in a few years ago in 2023 to record my last album “Sunset Sunrise”. The studio was vacant and we brought a team of incredible guys to make this album, including Taylor Tatsch, the engineer and producer who I met many years before in Fort Worth.
We stepped into a studio with all the tools to make a great album and we did just that.. Once the album was done, the studio again sat vacant again for a couple more years, until I was approached to step in and take the reigns. That’s when I asked Jake to consider joining me as the head engineer and producer, who also played keys on the album, and was my keys player at the time.
I knew he had run his home studio for over 10 years not to mention what a great musician he was. We both had a meeting and talked about this partnership and journey together, and after a lot of prayer and consideration, we made the move. Exploring what the studio really had to offer was a slow build and we even offered free sessions to our friends so we could get some reps tracking and recording as a fully functioning operation now called Tribblation Sound.
We currently have many projects in the works, have tracked several live bands and even recorded and videoed podcasts and music videos in our studio.
We named the console Dorothy, after my song “Dorothy Girl” a song off the album that started this whole journey for us both. This was a door that God opened up for us to walk through after a long relationship with my friends at The Firehouse Gastro Park over a span of 5 years, meeting the city council members and taking trips to Americana Fest in Nashville as a featured artist for Grand Prairie Tx. We are a part of a music culture and so honored to be able to use the resources provided to impact the music in DFW. This is dream that I never intended on reaching for but a new chapter that I’m so excited for.
To have this studio to offer up to the very music community that I have grown to love and that has shown me so much support is amazing and I believe is and a very special part of how we connect as a whole and that life was always intended for us to come together and carry the torch helping each other along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am former middle school Science teacher and I moved to the Fort Worth area to teach after graduating from Stephen F. Austin St. University. I was born in Texarkana but grew up in Sherman Tx.
I had been writing songs since I was 18 and playing pic up gigs as well while teaching, and In 2013 I randomly auditioned for the TV show “The Voice” and before I knew I made it all the way out to Los Angeles for 3 days for a final audition. After getting a call to come back to possibly turn a chair, which later i found out was not a for sure opportunity to even get to that chance, my wife and I made the bittersweet but rightful decision to focus on growing our family and me being a dad to our new baby girl and continue to teach and write songs and play gigs instead of go back to L.A.
After a long career teaching and coaching, my wife and I decided it was time to shift gears. In 2016 I resigned from teaching. We weren’t aware of what that meant but after several odd jobs and even a part time teaching job during Covid, which was a huge blessing for me family when music wasn’t an option,
In 2021 my wife looked at me as I was debating on what to do next after the summer, she said “book as many shows as you can and let’s just see what happens”. That support meant the world becuase I had ready to take that leap for a while,
I was then on my way to being a full time independent singer, songwriter and recording and performing artist and worship leader. All the things I have dreamt about doing to provide for my family.
I have been able to make and play the music that I can resonate with, now spanning across the Americana, Folk, and Indie scenes as a winsome troubadour with parables of my while finding inspiration as a husband and a father and in the moments and connections that come from just living life.
To top it off I recorded my 4th studio album “Sunset Sunrise” produced by Taylor Tatsch (Marren Morris) at this very same studio that would be the a big part of the next chapter for me. Can’t make this stuff up!
In 2023 I also started a group called “Singer Songwriter Coffee and Collective”. I got this idea from attending mixers hosted by Tom Martens at Hear Fort Worth, a collective event to bring all the creatives in the area together in one room, connecting the dots that were already on the page. I wanted to connect with my fellow songwriter friends without having to yell at them in bar or venue after a show to talk about life, music, songwriting, booking, tips, tricks, you name it. We have been meeting at 10a at Common Grounds near TCU every Friday for over 3 years now. It has been such a joy to watch this become part of the weekly run-ins among songwrtiers as we support each other connecting in a new ways over coffee. Bringing together so many different perspectives and paths to intersect and become a fresh boost the the music community that is continuing to grow. I’m excited to see what’s next for this group as we find new ways to hone our craft as and perfoming artists grinding with grace to be authentic and real with what and how we make and present music.
I have a heart for the music community and the pulse that it keeps within the culture and framework that is continuing to build here in DFW. I love meeting new songwriters and making connections within the community through music and now through the studio.
I am very blessed to have had a lot of experience doing this music thing and it has served me well along with great support from so many people. Faith, diligence and stamina as well as respect, consistency, confidence and humility have allowed me to be able to play the long game that was required and I wouldn’t change a thing about the journey. My faith in God and those characteristics He has taught me to choose and live by are the foundation of who I am as a father, husband, friend, artist and now w/ the recording studio. I hope to wake up everyday remembering the big “P”, the purpose of it all. Making a difference, which means it’s never gonna be pointing back at me. My job is to know who i am, accept it, and get good at it. at least pretty good at it.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite podcast at this point in my life is Craig Groeschel Leadership podcast. My favorite book is the Bible. I don’t read many book or blogs. Need to spend less time on Instagram since we’re on the subject. My ADD has never been more triggered and it has been something I have to monitor myself. Lot of time wasted there, working to change that.
Could probably use some suggestions for new podcasts and maybe a book or two. if it’s on audio books. I’m in my car a lot.
