Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayana Mikhaylova.
Hi Dayana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We’re originally from Bulgaria, where fashion and presentation are deeply ingrained in the culture. Growing up in Europe, we were taught that quality and craftsmanship matter. Even if someone owns only a few pieces, they take pride in wearing garments that are beautifully made, thoughtfully constructed, and designed to last. That perspective stayed with us and ultimately shaped how we approached bridal fashion.
Fashion and garment construction were also part of our lives from an early age. My mother, Liana, learned to sew when she was just ten years old, and together we developed a deep appreciation for fabrics, tailoring, fit, and design. Long before opening a bridal boutique, we were the type of people who would instinctively examine the stitching, construction, and materials of every garment we purchased.
In 2022, when I (Dayana) was planning my own wedding, my mother and I spent months visiting bridal boutiques throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area. What began as a personal experience quickly revealed a gap in the market. We were surprised by how difficult it was to find boutiques carrying exclusively European bridal designers, especially in such a fashion-forward and diverse region. We also noticed that many gowns at premium price points didn’t always reflect the level of craftsmanship, fabric quality, or detail we expected for the cost.
At the time, opening a bridal boutique was never part of our plan. But about two years after my wedding, we unexpectedly found ourselves unemployed at the same time. A few weeks later, I also learned I was pregnant. What initially felt like a setback became an opportunity to create the bridal experience we wished had existed when we were shopping for my wedding dress.
That vision became the foundation of Only You Bridal. We built the boutique around solving many of the frustrations brides commonly encounter, including inconsistent sizing, excessive alteration costs, limited customization options, and a lack of transparency throughout the process. From the beginning, we committed ourselves to partnering with European designers known for exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful construction, and beautiful fabrics while keeping quality bridal fashion accessible. We strongly believe brides shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality to stay within budget, which is why our gowns begin around $1,000.
Opening the boutique was both exciting and terrifying. My baby was only seven weeks old when we officially opened our doors. Looking back now, it was one of the biggest leaps of faith we’ve ever taken—but also one of the most rewarding. Today, every bride who finds her dream gown and every family we have the privilege of serving reminds us why we took that chance.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most small business owners, our journey hasn’t been without challenges. Opening a bridal boutique from the ground up comes with a steep learning curve, especially in an industry where many systems and traditions have been established for decades.
One of our biggest challenges early on was earning trust as a newer boutique in a highly competitive market. Choosing a wedding gown is one of the most emotional and meaningful purchases many women will ever make, and brides understandably want to feel confident they are working with professionals who genuinely have their best interests at heart. We knew we had to work hard to demonstrate our expertise, educate brides on quality and fit, and create an experience that felt different from the typical bridal appointment.
Another challenge was identifying and building relationships with the right designers. Because quality is at the core of everything we do, we spent countless hours researching fabrics, construction methods, sizing systems, customization capabilities, and production consistency before bringing any collection into the boutique. We wanted complete confidence in every gown we offered.
At the same time, we were navigating major life changes. We opened the boutique shortly after unexpectedly losing our jobs, and my daughter was only seven weeks old when we welcomed our first brides. There were certainly moments when balancing entrepreneurship and new motherhood felt overwhelming.
What those experiences ultimately taught us was adaptability. Rather than trying to replicate what every other bridal store was doing, we focused on creating an experience rooted in education, personalization, and genuine care. Those challenges forced us to be intentional with every decision we made, from the designers we selected to the way we serve each bride who walks through our doors.
Looking back, the obstacles strengthened our purpose. They reinforced our belief that brides deserve a boutique experience built on expertise, honesty, and exceptional service, and they continue to shape the way we operate today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Only You Bridal is a European-focused bridal boutique built around quality, personalization, and exceptional service. Our goal has always been to create a bridal experience that feels elevated and intentional while remaining warm, approachable, and welcoming.
One of the things that sets us apart is our exclusive focus on European bridal designers known for exceptional craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics, and thoughtful construction. Every collection is carefully curated to provide brides with designs that feel distinctive, fashion-forward, and beautifully made.
We also specialize in customization and custom sizing, which many brides are surprised to learn is not standard throughout the bridal industry. Most women do not naturally fit into a traditional bridal size chart, and we believe brides deserve gowns designed to complement their bodies rather than requiring extensive alterations to achieve the right fit. Whenever possible, we help brides customize their gowns and order sizing that minimizes unnecessary alteration costs while maximizing comfort and confidence.
In addition to our in-boutique appointments, we offer an in-home bridal experience that brings the boutique directly to the bride. This service has become especially meaningful for brides with demanding schedules, those who want to celebrate with loved ones in the comfort of their own home, or brides who face physical limitations that make traveling difficult. We believe every bride deserves a personalized and memorable shopping experience, regardless of circumstance.
We are also proud to support brides through every stage of their wedding gown journey. In addition to helping them find their dream dress, we offer professional alterations, gown steaming, bridal gown cleaning, and preservation services. Whether a gown was purchased from us or elsewhere, we believe every dress deserves expert care and attention both before and after the wedding day.
Transparency is another cornerstone of our business. We never want a bride to feel pressured, misled, or uncertain about what to expect. If something realistically cannot be achieved, we believe it is better to communicate openly than make promises we cannot keep. That philosophy guides every appointment and every interaction we have.
As a mother-daughter team, we’ve intentionally built Only You Bridal to feel personal, supportive, and relationship-driven. One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been watching hundreds of brides find the gown they’ve been dreaming of while knowing they felt genuinely cared for throughout the process. For us, it’s about far more than selling a dress—it’s about helping create one of the most meaningful moments in a bride’s life.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Opening Only You Bridal was undoubtedly one of the biggest risks we’ve ever taken. At the time, we had both unexpectedly lost our jobs, I was pregnant, and we didn’t have the financial certainty most people would prefer before starting a business. From the outside, opening a bridal boutique under those circumstances probably sounded a little crazy—and there were moments when it felt that way to us, too.
But sometimes the greatest opportunities appear during the most uncertain seasons of life. We believed strongly in what we were building, recognized a genuine gap in the market, and knew that if we didn’t take the chance, we might always wonder what could have been. Looking back, that experience taught us a tremendous amount about resilience, adaptability, and trusting our instincts.
While we were willing to take a significant risk on ourselves, we take a very different approach when it comes to our brides. Weddings are deeply meaningful milestones, and our goal is to remove uncertainty—not add to it. Whether we’re discussing timelines, customization possibilities, fit expectations, alterations, or gown care, we believe in providing clear guidance and honest recommendations from the very beginning.
Our brides are already making countless decisions during the wedding planning process. We view our role as providing expertise, clarity, and support so they can enjoy the experience with confidence. We took a risk building the business, but our goal is to ensure our brides never feel like they’re taking one when they choose us.
