Meet Dominic Pecikonis of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Pecikonis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I knew a life in the arts was for me after my 3rd grade class play. I studied theatre, dance, and music all through school, Getting my BFA in Musical Theatre at Sam Houston State University. After winning a full scholarship through the Kennedy Center College Theatre Festival, I attended the Open Jar Institute Residency Program in NYC. From there I toured with Spamilton an American Parody and began working regi0nally throughout Texas and the US
Around 2020 I finally came to terms with my gender and began my social transition as nonbinary and trans femme. Since then I’ve been honored to represent my community on stages all over, from cruise ships to regional theatres.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle before coming out was constantly feeling at odds, especially portraying male or trying to fit into society’s ideas of what a man is. After coming out, the biggest obstacle is finding like minded artists and organizations that truly see me and crave an environment that Includes a black trans body. I do not fit into a box in an industry and society that wishes to categorize. But I’ve been grateful over the last 4 years for the theatres that have hired me and affirmed me through their casting and environment.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor, Singer, dancer, producer, and director. While I’ve been lucky to open doors for trans actors in shows not typically including them, (playing Paulette in Legally Blonde, and Connor in Dear Evan Hansen), I am most proud of the spaces I’ve created myself. I recently produced, directed, and acted in an all trans and nonbinary production of Little Women. We benefited a local organization focusing on the betterment of Black trans women and lgbt+ individuals called House of Rebirth, raising 3k through ticket sales. It waa a special moment of humanizing trans people through a beloved story, while providing jobs for trans actors and creatives.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
My dm’s are always open and I am eager to collaborate.
