Meet Ebony Botchway of A Touch of Heaven Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Botchway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ebony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The way I started photography I have been at my previous job for some years and I was stressed out in life is throwing me lemon so I took a leave of absence and thought I’d make lemonade out of those lemons. I picked up a camera and I started just randomly taking pictures and you know, offering services to people who were interested in pictures just to kind of get my feet wet I just get myself out there I had always been that kid that always had a camera in her hand I was always going to Walgreens and buy the disposable cameras and you always know the one with the camera and all of the vents in the school events in charge events and you know just randomly capturing things I am just love to catch up memories love to make people smile love to have something to reflect back on.

I remember as a child, my mom but sometimes talk about how she had so many pictures of us as kids and our baby pictures but those pictures were lost in a house fire and I saw how sentimental that was to her because it touched her every time she thought about it she would kind of tear up a little bit and when she would mention those memories that she had captured of us. I always wanted to be the one that captured every moment possible everything becomes a memory everything is sentimental it has some type of sentimental value and I’m just that type of person. I like to capture that and be able to go back and reflect on those times are reflect on that particular moment in time

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There’s always going to be struggles along the way no matter what we do but I felt that the responses that I get from clients make it worthwhile. You know you’ll get those clients that are crying or overly excited with what you’ve provided to them after they’ve done a session or whether it be a memorial service or a significant birthday party, their first baby… you know those memories are very precious and my clients become family and it makes it all worth it, but has not been a smooth roll it all there are going to be struggles there and I’m sure will always be struggles but for every struggle, you just roll your sleeves up and you keep fighting because anything that’s worth having is worth fighting for no matter how hard it gets. I’ll always be forever grateful for the struggle because the struggle is what makes you know that’s that make it or break it a time when those hard times hit that’s when you have to really buckle down and grab hold of yourself mentally because oftentimes, the struggle is more so mentally when you do not know how things are going to go or when times are hard for example during the pandemic you know you don’t have people taking pictures or using your services because you know we’re not able to so it’s in those times when you’re not sure, that’s the main struggle.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a freelance photographer and I capture any moment that you would want to be captured from newborns to maternity to birthdays parties, memorial services if you just have a puppy that you think is cute and you want me to take random pictures of that puppy, I will snap anything that is able to be captured I am a freelance photographer and I capture any moment that you would want captured from newborns to maternity to birthdays parties memorial services if you just have a puppy that you think is cute and you want me to take random pictures of that puppy I will snap anything that is able to be captured lol.

I mainly known for the vibe that I get is when I’m servicing my clients. I’ll never say that I’m the best photographer. I have a long way to go and I have so many more things to learn, techniques to improve on but I have been known for the smile that I would bring about when my clients are around you know if they’re nervous, I try to find whatever you will make them more comfortable whether it be music, funny topics, wine… so whatever makes them feel good at that moment. I’m just a people person and I love to make people smile. I love to see people happy and feeling good about themselves. For me it’s not just about the money it’s about making sure that their vision is brought to life that they’re happy with the results from their session. Often times I get results of tears or results of laughter I get results of hugging.. those mean a lot to me, it’s not just a client but they become family.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I can say I’ve been very blessed with my business won’t even focus on the bad because the good outweighs the bad. I’ve met and been able to work with some very great people, whether they are celebrities or just your regular a regular Joe who wants to take pictures. Business has been good for me. I have a great support base. I’m busy monthly so no complaints there so I would say that life and business have been good no matter the bad.
