Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Moncus.
Emily, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was blessed with my daughter in 2014, I was told children do not keep. I vowed to make it my personal mission to use my camera to document as many moments as I could. Little did I know, I would be finding my passion.
Capturing those little fingers and toes even those moments when fingers are in the nose. I am a natural light photographer specializing in newborn, toddler, and family photography. Since I started my photography journey in we relocated from Omaha, Nebraska to Denton, Texas, where I currently have an in-home studio dedicated to newborns and toddlers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Photography has not always been a smooth road. It is amazing what working with different clients will teach you about yourself. One of the largest obstacles has been for me, has been to learn that the best images happen without a single piece of instruction and that just allowing yourself to slow down you will capture the meaningful moments that parents will cherish.
Specializing in newborns and toddlers always gives me unique images. Newborns and toddlers make their own schedule and their own rules, whether its a silly smile, crunched nose, or balling up those fists as soon as the shutter clicks, its unique.
Please tell us about Emily Moncus Photography.
I am an owner operated a photography business. I specialize in newborns, toddlers, and family. I am known for my newborn photography. I am most proud of the way that my business and work have both blossomed in the Dallas Fort Worth area. I think what sets me apart from other photographers would be my personality.
When I welcome someone into my studio, I welcome them in as they are family because to me they are. I have talked to them throughout their pregnancy, celebrated their maternity, followed their pregnancy for the announcement of their newest family member, and then I get to celebrate and document the beauty of that newest family member.
It is so amazing to see and feel the love and the warmth that fills my studio when mom and dad see their sweet little love all cuddled up during their session. They become family. It is amazing to witness. I feel like you can feel that it my studio and that’s what I feel sets me apart from others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The most important lesson that I have learned as a photographer is to be yourself and allow who you are to shine through the work that you are producing. I wish that I learned that sooner. Clients really appreciate when you are yourself with them. It definitely helps, because having your photo taken can be so awkward, a little humor goes a long way.
