Meet Essence Henderson of The Essence of Lashes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Essence Henderson.

Essence, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been fascinated with the art of beauty, primarily eyelashes. Back in high school, I spent time in class playing with heated lash curlers from Avon and applying mascara. Shortly after I started wearing eyelashes, my grandmother was big on skincare and ordered Mary Kay faithfully, so a skin care routine came natural to me at a young age. My everyday look consisted of clear skin, eyelashes and lip gloss.

When I first saw a friend of my sisters with eyelash extensions in 2015, it was like a dose of Heaven. I was fascinated and couldn’t stop asking questions about them! I was unsure how she did it, but I knew I wanted to learn. I was trained and lashed for a year while developing a game plan to leave my job. I enrolled in Ogle to study Esthetics full time in February 2017 and graduated in August a few months later.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Never! I knew nothing about running a business when I quit my job and started school. All I knew was it was my calling, and I had a strong passion for it. I’ve gone through so much to get to where I am today. I have numerous stories to tell, but I won’t direct my energy going back down that path and elaborating on it too much.

After getting tired of wasting tears or throwing tantrums (its the Princess in me) because things didn’t go as planned I started to use that energy to educate myself and gain strength in my weak areas. My business has grown from a room at my sister’s house, to my living room in my apartment, to a suite of my own. I can’t complain. I can say that the financial aspect is the hardest part about starting a business.

I am continuously setting goals and educating myself on business finance so I tend to avoid certain situations that may cause me to stress over money. Also, I’m an introvert, so its little hard for me to network but social media helps with exposure. I’ve been working on getting out more lately, and I see a little improvement. I still struggle, but I take the good with the bad and keep moving. After all, a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

The Essence of Lashes is dedicated to helping you achieve your natural beauty goals. I specialize in lash extensions; however, I also offer facials and waxing services. I love combining the artistry of eyelash design with my exclusive technique to tailor perfect designs for each individual’s unique eye shape.

My mission is to set and maintain the standard for attainable beauty and unsurpassed customer service. Whether you come in for a lash nap or a facial, the warm and welcoming aura will have you eager for your next visit.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have two training classes scheduled next year along with the launch of my 3D mink lash line. I’ve put so much into my lash line trying to find the perfect quality and packaging I am sure my clients are going to love them. I can’t wait to expand my service menu and product line. I eventually want to create a skincare line as well.

I’ve set aside a larger budget for marketing, so I’m super excited to watch all the ideas that I have written down come to life. I’m just looking forward to seeing my business blossom and expand. As long as I plant and water my seeds, there is no telling what the universe has in store for The Essence of Lashes.
