Hi Fatima, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in August 2023. At the time, I was working a full-time job and looking for a way to earn extra income. I decided to take a chance and invest in marquee numbers. Every party I attended seemed to have those beautiful light-up numbers and letters, and I knew there was a demand for them. I started small, purchasing the most commonly requested numbers: 0, 1, 2, and 5. I began posting my rentals on my personal social media, but what people didn’t know was that those were the only four numbers I owned. As inquiries started coming in, clients would request numbers I didn’t have, which pushed me to continue investing my savings into growing my inventory. What started as a side hustle quickly became something that kept me busy every weekend. Little by little, I added more numbers until I was able to accommodate more requests. At first, I only offered marquee drop-offs, but as demand grew, clients began asking for letters as well. As I continued doing installs, I met so many amazing people in the event industry. Since I only offered marquees, I often worked alongside balloon artists who would take a simple setup and transform it into something incredible. Through those events, I built friendships with many vendors who inspired me along the way. There was one vendor in particular who made a huge impact on my journey. She had started her business around a year after I did, and she constantly encouraged me to think bigger. She pushed me to offer full-service gender reveal packages instead of just marquee rentals. She encouraged me to add balloon decor and gender reveal effects to my services. Working with balloons was completely outside of my comfort zone. Our main hit to RD is gender reveal set ups. We are now a one stop business that will bring your dream gender reveal. We are official 1 year strong doing full gender reveal set ups. From letters, to balloons, gender reveal effects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first year in business was challenging I wasn’t getting many clients since I only offered marquees. Some clients wanted the product cheaper or they just wouldnt answer me. It was tough in the beginning because I felt like I wasn’t really booking but I also didn’t have many services to offer other than numbers.
One of my biggest challenges was also working a full time job and trying to grow my business at the same time. Once I had the chance after work I would post weekend events to post content and have people see my work. Looking back I wouldn’t say it’s been easy but it’s been a challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
RD Rentals specializes in creating memorable event experiences, with a strong focus on gender reveals. While we offer marquee numbers, letters, backdrops, and other custom props, gender reveals have become the heart of our business.
What I am most proud of has been the support my family has brought to me. I decided to quit my full time job Jan 2026. Dedicating my full time to something that I am very passionate and proud of what I once started.
One thing I’m specially proud of is being able to purchase my business van. When I started, I was making deliveries with whatever resources I had available. Being able to invest in a van was a reminder that all the hard work, long weekends, and sacrifices were paying off.
What sets us apart is the personal touch behind every set up. We are a family owned business that is involved in every set up. While my dad helps me create custom pieces and inventory my mom and I are in charge of the balloon inventory and anything we are missing or need for each set up.
What’s next?
My plans are to expand all my services over DFW. I am located in Oak Cliff, Tx so one of the plans is to open up a balloon store around the area. Each time we have to purchase balloons we need to travel around the area. There are many balloon artist around the area so being able to open up a store will probably be a hit around the area.
