Meet Gabrielle Beasley of Genesis Productions in Bedford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Beasley.

Gabrielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed writing short stories, but it wasn’t until I was given a writing assignment by my theater teacher in high school that something ignited in me. It was the first time I produced something that I had written. To see your works come to life is such a beautiful feeling. Up until that point, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. That one writing assignment gave me purpose and I knew I had to pursue a career in media. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television, and Film Broadcasting. I wasn’t a big fan of the LA scene, so after a year, I moved back to Texas and obtained my degree at the University of North Texas. After college, I worked as an Associate Producer at a production company out of Dallas, TX. I completed some independent projects as well, one being my stage play, “First Lady or Not.” I produced the play in 2012 and 2014. Fast-forward to 2018 and I turned my stage play into a novel and am currently working on funding to turn play/novel into a film.

I am currently in the conceiving stages of my second novel and I have also collaborated with six other creatives to form the production company, “Potluck Film Productions” in Bedford, TX. Having a desire to create our own opportunity we write and produce our own works.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is never just a smooth road, but I believe that’s a good thing. If we aren’t tried, how can we truly edify ourselves? It’s the challenges that stretch us past our comfort zone. And Lord knows I’ve been stretched, LOL. I think the biggest struggle that I’ve had to push through is when I hit one of life’s crossroads. I was laid off from my job when the network didn’t pick up the show I was working on for another season. I was blindsided and didn’t see it coming. I couldn’t find another full-time job in the industry. I was able to work some freelance gigs, but it wasn’t consistent enough to pay the bills. I was forced to go back working a nine to five. It was a very confusing, and dark time in my life. I questioned if the media was even part of my purpose and considered pursuing another field.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Genesis Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Through Genesis Productions, I write novels, stage plays, and screenplays. I eventually would like to venture into motivational speaking.

I’m the proudest of Genesis Productions because it’s the evidence of me having put my fear to the side and created an opportunity for myself. I’m not a quitter by any standards, so I truly believe this is only the beginning. Which is why I named my production company Genesis Productions.

I believe what sets me apart from other writers is my authenticity and rawness. I tell stories about characters that can be very representative of most of our lives. I want my readers to be able to relate with my characters by seeing some of themselves in them. In a society in which perfection is the standard, I want my readers to know it’s okay to be different and if the change is desired it should come from within.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Motivational speaking is something that I can definitely see for myself in the future. I also plan to continue creating both books and films. A few things I’m planning for in the future are to one day have at least one of my books on the New York Times Best Seller’s List, seeing my films on the big screen, owning a television network, and winning an Oscar.
