Meet Glenn Haugk of Live Free Fitness in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Haugk.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Glenn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a college baseball player. I was very active and exercised all the time. I loved the human body and I just could not stop learning about how the body worked. I decided to major in Exercise Science to prepare for Physical Therapy School. Then one day I hurt my back really bad. I could barely put on shoes or socks. Usually, some type of injury just got better with rest, but this time was different. I was not getting any better.

I finally decided to go to physical therapy and that really decreased my pain as long as I did not attempt to exercise in the smallest amount. Every time I tried to exercise like I used to, I would be right back to the inability to put on shoes or socks again and I was back into physical therapy. This pattern lasted for about a year. I was concerned that I could not handle the physical demands of being a Physical Therapist.

Then I found someone who specialized in Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) and a very specialized personal training called OrthoKinetics & Resistance Training Specialist (RTS). This combination kept me on the road to recovery and getting stronger! Over the next year, I was finally able to participate in life the way I used to in college.

I decided I wanted to be there for people that are done with their physical therapy and wanted to continue to improve their physical ability and fitness beyond just activities of daily living and give them the ability to Live Free utilizing MAT and Exercise!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Although it has been very challenging, this journey has also been the most rewarding things I could have ever taken. There have been many challenges in learning how to help people who have very difficult circumstances physically. I have had to dedicate most of my time to educating myself in helping people who look fine on the outside, but on the inside, are mechanically inefficient and broken.

Thankfully my clients are just as dedicated, if not more so than myself to feeling better! Then theirs the business side of the story. Growing a successful personal training business was not easy for me. I knew I wanted to do what was best for people. I felt so little confidence in how to work with people because I was so scared of injuring them like I injured myself.

I didn’t want to hurt anyone the way I was hurt in the past. I know there are lots trainers who are so busy, but all they do is try to make people sweat and puke. They have no regard for how their choices for exercises are going to affect people’s bodies.

Thankfully I had some of the best mentors in the world helping me along the way. I learned directly under Everett Aaberg (Founder/Creator of OrthoKinetics Institute), Tom Purvis (Founder/Creator of Resistance Training Specialist), and Greg Roskopf (Founder/Developer of Muscle Activation Techniques).

These men gave me the education and tools I needed to be able to feel confident in helping people from an elite athlete to the person struggling to live a life free from restrictions. After I developed a successful training and therapy business, I left Telos Fitness Center after 12 years great years for a partnership that quickly ended as we just had different visions for our futures.

That lead me to do some soul searching and I founded Live Free Fitness where I have the vision to help people live free from restrictions and to live as healthy of a life as possible! I want to be the local coffee shop, or as I like to call it, your local physical body mechanic that you can trust to help you live life to the fullest!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Live Free Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Live Free Mission statement is; Our aim is to help people live as a free and active lifestyle as possible. We will strive to serve you with superior exercise prescription and execution, the most proven manual techniques, and nutritional advice. Our passion is to join our clients in their journey to live free.

The way we try to accomplish this mission is through utilizing the combination of manual therapies like Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) and Active Release Techniques, and precision in exercise execution. The manual therapies are used to identify and address potential muscular imbalances that each person’s body is dealing with that may be causing compensations that are causing or leading to muscle injury or pain.

Once we have identified and corrected the muscular imbalances through the manual techniques, then we have to get the body stronger to maintain this new ability! The more efficient the muscular system becomes, the less compensation, tightness, and pain we start to feel.

We are most proud of the Live Free Testimonials! That is what we are here for, to help people live free, move free, pain-free! Nothing brings us more joy and renewed passion than someone saying they are able to do things that they once thought were no longer possible.

This company is the only fitness company in North Texas to hold the highest certifications in Muscle Activation Techniques and Resistance Training Specialist Programs, as well as the only MAT, approved education and tutoring center in Texas.

Glenn also has been privileged to be able to teach for the OrthoKinetics Institute, the Resistance Training Program, and Muscle Activation Techniques programs.

Live Free Fitness also has a unique relationship with a Physical Therapy Office in the same space. Source One Physical Therapy is offices in the same location and is willing to offer their experience in helping our clients reclaim their lives!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I wouldn’t call them big changes, but we are looking forward to establishing our name in the North Texas area. We are looking forward to building more relationships with other fitness-minded companies in the surrounding area to help make North Texas more healthy!
