Today we’d like to introduce you to Glory Rodriguez.
Hi Glory, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story starts off like every other artist’s. As a little kid, I drew all the time and had an expansive imagination, but as my teenage years and adulthood came around, I was influenced to take the more traditional path. I was really good at math, so I went to school for “architecture,” then changed it to “civil engineering,” and eventually ended up with a general science degree.
That only lasted so long before I realized my heart was in the arts. I didn’t really know how to get into the art world, and I was also passionate about acting. Meanwhile, I was still painting in my room and garage. I started doing modeling gigs, then commercials, and eventually some movies, until I took some time off and realized how much I missed painting. I missed the simple pleasure of the process and the creativity.
That’s when I made art my priority and let everything else revolve around it. My life has become much more healing and peaceful because of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel like every successful person goes through struggles. “Unless they get rich quick, they’ll lose it just as fast”, I think that’s how the saying goes. I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned throughout the years. There were a lot of uncomfortable situations, but I realized many of the struggles were mental.
Shifting the mindset that society gives us, and creating your own story and identity for yourself, is still something I struggle with. But compared to where I used to be, I’ve definitely grown, and I’m much happier because of it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think a lot of people know me for different things, some through my acting, some through modeling, some through my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (which became a huge passion of mine), some through dance community, and others just through my ability to do a little bit of everything. When I reflect on my 20s, the thing I’m most proud of is how much knowledge and experience I’ve gained.
Now, I primarily work as an artist. I paint and specialize in many different mediums, I’ve explored and experimented a lot.
My artwork revolves around surrealism, spirituality, and diverse dimensions. I love when people stare at my art and it makes them think deeper about life, seeing life through my lens.
I believe what sets me apart is my ability to learn from my mistakes, my grit, discipline, and constant need for growth. Fun fact: I taught myself how to paint and create. And trust me, there was a LOT of trial and error along the way.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wish I could name every single person who’s helped me along the way, because even the smallest bit of a feather of help can create a butterfly effect. But I especially want to say that my mom has always been my #1 supporter, letting me go with the flow in life and loving me no matter what I choose to do.
