Today we’d like to introduce you to Rukudzo Sithole.
Rukudzo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Inside Fitness was birthed from a personal need that I had to understand how life works and to manage it effectively. There was also a need to understand myself as an individual on how to relate to the world and live out the dreams that I saw inside of me. In a bid to further explore the world and myself I left Zimbabwe in January 2000 with a bag full of hope and dreams armed with a $100. I enrolled in college and worked odd jobs totally 60 hrs a week to survive and to pay for school. I managed to graduate with an Associates in Computer Information systems from Navarro college and a Bachelors in Finance from UT Tyler. With these 2 degrees is still struggled to manifest my dreams or to land lucrative employment. I started to realize that there is something more than education that I need to be able to change my conditions which were made up of financial stress and poor relationships, friendships along with depression and anxiety. I realized that I need to improve the way I manage life and perceive it. My emotional life was not in alignment with what I wanted out of life. I lacked the necessary life skills to manage life well. As a result of seminars, therapy, and reading books I realized that the more I worked on my inside, the more the outside aligned and I started to get the results I wanted. I understood that life is an inside job. I decided to open a practice that will work with an individual from an internal focus, based on the philosophy that if we work on the internal emotional life, the outside will align to mirror your internal state. The concept has been highly received in Frisco and we have been deemed as the face of mental health for 2018 and its been highly successful and be able to contain the growth. We have moved office spaces three times in four years.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. First challenge was believing in myself that I can do what I saw in me. Coming from a background where my talents were not reinforced, I found it hard to see myself correctly as someone who had a value that would contribute significantly to the mental health field. Second challenge was the finances to sustain the business. I had to carry the business for the first year paying rent. I did not take a salary for two years. I was transitioning from corporate America as a consultant. So, I had to consult during the day and work in the practice during the night. I worked a total of 80 hours a week for one year. Third challenge was learning to navigate the health care industry and to overcome the hurdles with working with insurance companies. As I was coming from corporate America I had the business concept but had to relearn the healthcare business. Fourth challenge was to find the right customer and package that will attract them. We had an unorthodox approach to mental health and we had to sell it effectively.
