Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamal Ferrell.
Jamal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got into photography, after throwing a fashion show called “Fashionstatment” seeing everyone around my age doing something creative like designing clothes, I wanted to do the same thing. I knew I would need to get photos taken if I did start my own clothing line, and instead of having to pay for a photographer, I picked up a camera four years ago.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was tough. Still kind of tough. The hardest thing is to try and find guidance, a lot of young photographers get in it for the wrong reasons like money or they can pick up girls. I got into it because of the money and not for the love of it. It really started growing on me after a few years.
Killerlens – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Photography is my business. I came a long way from where I use to be with taking photos, which is the reason take a lot of pride in it. The thing that sets me apart from most photographers, would be my creativeness, and if I can crack into fashion and editorial photography, I think I can set myself even further apart.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Meeting new people and learning new techniques like frequency separation and color grading.
