Meet Jazmine Fischer-Veal of Akron, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Fischer-Veal.

Hi Jazmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Jazmine Fischer is an Ohio-based fashion designer and founder of By Jazmine Fischer, known for creating high-fashion, editorial pieces that blend cultural influence with bold, modern storytelling. A graduate of Kent State University’s fashion program, Jazmine’s journey into design has been anything but traditional. While building her brand, she simultaneously serves her community as a firefighter and paramedic with the Akron Fire Department—two demanding worlds that have shaped her discipline, resilience, and creative voice. What began as a passion for sketching and constructing garments evolved into a mission: to create a platform that not only showcases her work but also uplifts emerging talent and brings meaningful, elevated fashion experiences to her city.

Her design perspective is rooted in duality, storytelling, and cultural fusion. Collections like her Gemini line explored the contrast between light and dark, heaven and earth, while her recent Aquarius/Samurai-inspired work merges Asian influence, anime nostalgia, and streetwear energy into fluid, high-impact runway pieces. Jazmine is known for pushing beyond traditional boundaries—designing garments that are not confined to a single culture or category, but instead exist in a space entirely their own. Her work often features intricate detailing, bold silhouettes, and a strong editorial presence that resonates both on the runway and in visual storytelling.

Jazmine’s career reached a major milestone when she was featured in Harlem Fashion Week during New York Fashion Week in September 2025, later receiving an invitation to return for the Winter/Fall 2026 season. Alongside national recognition, she has been highlighted on the front page of the Akron Beacon Journal and featured on Kent Stater TV and Fox 8 Cleveland’s New Day. Beyond the runway, she continues to invest in her local fashion community—producing her own shows, collaborating with designers, and creating immersive fashion experiences in Akron. Through every step of her journey, Jazmine remains committed to evolving her craft, expanding her reach, and redefining what it means to build a fashion brand from the Midwest.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has played a role in shaping both my brand and my perspective as a designer. One of the biggest obstacles has been balancing two demanding careers—serving as a firefighter and paramedic while simultaneously building a fashion brand from the ground up. Both require discipline, time, and energy, and there have been moments where I’ve had to push through exhaustion and uncertainty just to keep moving forward. Financial limitations have also been a reality. Producing high-fashion garments, funding runway shows, and investing in opportunities like New York Fashion Week all require significant resources, so I’ve had to be strategic, resourceful, and confident in taking calculated risks.

Another challenge has been navigating the industry itself, especially coming from the Midwest rather than a traditional fashion capital. There can be limitations in access, exposure, and support, and I’ve often had to create my own opportunities instead of waiting for them. I’ve also faced creative pushback—being told that some of my designs are not always “commercial” or easily digestible for the average consumer. Instead of seeing that as a setback, I’ve learned how to evolve without compromising my vision, finding ways to balance artistry with wearability while still staying true to my identity as a designer.

Despite these challenges, each obstacle has strengthened my resilience and clarified my purpose. They’ve pushed me to think bigger, move smarter, and remain grounded in why I started. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been intentional—and every step has brought me closer to building something that is not only successful, but meaningful and impactful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a firefighter and paramedic, I serve my community by responding to emergencies, providing critical medical care, and supporting people in some of their most vulnerable moments. It’s a career that requires discipline, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. I’m most proud of the impact I’m able to make on a daily basis—being someone people can rely on in times of crisis. What sets me apart is how I carry those same qualities into everything I do; the resilience, focus, and commitment I’ve developed in the fire service have not only shaped me professionally, but have also influenced my approach to life and my work beyond the uniform.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Honestly, there isn’t too much that would surprise people about me because I’m very much an open book. I genuinely enjoy sharing my story—whether it’s about my journey as a designer, my experiences as a firefighter and paramedic, or the challenges I’ve faced along the way. I don’t believe in keeping things hidden, especially when my story could inspire or help someone else. If anything, what people might not expect is just how deeply connected all parts of my life are—how my career, my creativity, and my purpose all continuously influence one another.
