Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Taylor.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When my first child was born in 2009, photography became a hobby and creative outlet. I invested in a nice DSLR camera and enjoyed photographing family memories and occasions. To keep in touch with family, I wrote a blog. This was my motivation for photography at the time. Along came our second child in 2013, and I continued dabbling with the camera as a hobby. At the same time I took up the hobby of sewing girls’ clothing. Coincidentally, my interest in photography was further developed because of my dedication to sewing. Since I have two little girls, I dedicated time in creating dresses for them. For several years, I was a dressmaker and even had a small Etsy shop. To showcase my creations, I photographed the clothing on models (my children). Over time, I gravitated towards photography more than sewing. Like sewing, photography provided a creative outlet for my inner artist. At that point I went full force into photography. I learned how to operate my camera in manual mode as well as became skilled in editing software. With the help of friends and family encouraging me and allowing me to photograph them, I began my photography career. My business has grown through word of mouth as well as internet searches and social media.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been uncharted, which for me is the challenge. I am a planner and want to know every detail before it actually occurs. The biggest struggle in this journey has been the unforeseen path. When launching Jennifer Carley Photography, I took a leap of faith trusting that my talent and love for photography would continue to grow it into a business. Indeed, the business has grown in ways I could never have predicted!

Jennifer Carley Photography is a natural light photographer who shoots outdoors and in studios. Sessions offered to clients include maternity, lifestyle newborn, children, families, milestones, high school seniors, and individual portraits.
For maternity sessions, I love creating an ethereal feeling portraying the expectant mother as beautiful, feminine, and strong. After the baby arrives, I enjoy photographing the infant in the setting of their new home welcomed by the family in a series of candid and posed photographs in special places throughout the home utilizing natural light.
I also capture children and families in candid and posed photographs primarily outdoors. My goal is to photograph their bond and relationships between each other. Joy, togetherness, and love come across in the photos. In addition, I love to capture fine art style portraits in a studio setting. This is a little more of a serious genre, but I like to relax the client and let their true personality shine.
What were you like growing up?
When I was growing up, I was well known for being incredibly quiet and shy. I was a very sensitive child constantly aware of the people around me and their emotions. Looking back, I believe I was just an introvert, but people really didn’t talk about that back then. I was just labeled shy.
Also, I always wanted people to be pleased and happy with me. As I grew older, I developed into an overachiever. My grades became an intense focus as well as playing the violin. In fact, I met my husband in the high school orchestra. We are both creatives at heart! At a young age I developed a self-motivated drive that today has helped grow a successful photography business.
