Meet Jenny Hunter of Booch in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Hunter.

Jenny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My personal health journey was a long and painful path dealing with the crippling effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis. After a grim prognosis and cocktail of medications from conventional doctors I set out on a path to learn how to get better. Through years of study, trial and error, alternative medicine doctors, and yoga I am stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been!

I was so passionate about yoga and helping others feel better that I began teaching yoga full time and this month celebrate six years in my Dallas studio, the yoga movement Additionally, my personal brand LiveWell is a source of guidance on yoga, lifestyle, and supplements. When developing my LiveWell CBD supplements last year I was inspired by others in the industry who had a passion for kombucha and the benefits of hemp.

We began to brew and the excitement about the combined benefits were growing! I began to build a team of creatives to help carry out the vision I had for Booch!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
CBD and hemp in Texas has slowly made its mark as being a respected plant for its medicinal effects. We’ve had to be patient as hemp laws changed and the community became more educated. This limited our partnerships with distribution companies and national chains, leaving us to handle everything from production to sales, to distribution in house.

Please tell us about your business.
Kombucha has gained popularity over the last fve to ten years but I’ve found people either love it or are hate it. If Booch was going to win the hearts of even the most skeptic booch-curious consumer, we needed a drink that over-delivered on flavor and benefits. We started with organic everything. Green and black tea for the antioxidant benefits, organic hemp flower, cane sugar (don’t worry, most of the sugar is consumed during the fermentation process), pure fruit purees (NOT flavor powders), and aloe to soothe the digestive tract and make the beneficial ingredients all the more absorb-able.

While I wanted the product to be a hit, it was also very important to me that the company was congruent with my personal values authentic, fun, healthy and sustainable. Our refillable 32 oz howlers are intended to be an opportunity to make a difference in reducing the amount of consumer waste we produce. Even our kegs are recyclable!

But I wanted to also create a sustainable community one based on authentic conversations as Booch lovers refilled their howlers at their local restaurant serving on tap. Building friendships with other leaders in the community through our social platforms and in real life is vital to helping other do-gooders be heard! I believe in supporting small, local business because when we support each other everyone wins. We keep things personal and welcome feedback and kindness.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Booch would not exist without the hemp leaders at BlueJay and kombucha enthusiast, Rick DelFierro. Also, my graphic designer, Heather Fittz, has been helping me build brands and create images electronically for 15 years! She can take my crude drawings, descriptions and concepts and bring them to life! The sales and marketing team are all individuals who have a passion for grassroots and local entrepreneurship and believe in our community! Thanks to Neil Patel, Jenny Bailey, Mike Winter and social sister Stephanie Shaw for helping our launch in Dallas be so fun!
