Meet Jesse Spitzer in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Spitzer.

Jesse, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was gifted three-piece suits by my uncle when I was 24. He was one of those old-school “man about town” types. Shortly after, my jazz pianist grandfather gifted me ties, pocket squares, all manner of accouterments. I hadn’t really thought much of how I dressed before that. It changed everything for me and eventually led to the opening of Jesse Spitzer. It showed me that the details matter, the way you carry yourself matters. It turned me from a boy into a man. It gave me an appreciation for the finer things in life.

“Nothing but the best is good enough for me.” – Frank Sinatra

Has it been a smooth road?
Certainly not. Building a brand is never easy. There is always work to be done on multiple fronts. We have to work every day to earn the customer’s trust and loyalty. That takes time and a continuous pursuit of excellence. It is always a task to get someone to buy into a new brand rather than one already established. We are on our way but it has certainly not been without its roadblocks. It is often tough treading, but it is extremely fulfilling and I wouldn’t trade a day of it away. Much of the growth is in the pain and that’s invaluable. We see who we are as people and as entrepreneurs in those tough times. It’s a badge of honor.

I watched a video recently of Dwayne Johnson giving a motivational speech to the LA Lakers. He mentioned going to work every day as if his back was against the wall and he had to fight out of that position. It’s a great mindset to have both in hard and good times. In hard times because you truly are in a fight to survive, and in easy times because we have a tendency to sit back and rest. Even if you feel your work is done, it’s not. Keeping that perspective has helped many an entrepreneur to the top.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
We specialize in quality, classic, staple wardrobe pieces for men. Polo shirts with a collar that won’t curl up immediately with colors that don’t fade after one washing. Mother-of-pearl buttons. Quality stitching. Ties made in Italy by masters of their craft. I believe that much of it is in the tiny details. Those things that many people wouldn’t notice and that drives up the cost of producing something. Those little things are often what separates mediocrity from greatness. All of our clothing is quality. We don’t have different clothes at different price points. We want to be proud of each item we make. We’ll continue to do that going forward.

We are geared toward the modern man who has an affinity for classic manhood. Anyone who feels a connection between themselves and men like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, James Dean, Clark Gable, Dwayne Johnson as well as classic men of the ivy league will enjoy our brand. We like to think of ourselves as a great bridge between the old and classic and modern. Looking back on the great men and aesthetics of the past with an eye firmly planted on today and into the future.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe and hope it will go back to being more defined. It’s become so muddled with the emergence of outlet stores, making products just to sell to discounters. I think luxury brands are realizing that the people who are spending the big money want to feel exclusive and luxurious. They don’t want to spend $150 on something only to have the company they bought it from essentially knock off their own product and sell it for $20 at TJ Maxx. That really erodes brand loyalty over the long term.
