Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Myers.
Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Always easy to talk about Business and so much harder to talk about yourself! May or may not be the characteristic of a true Entrepreneur, but none the less, here’s a bit about me! I grew up in the competitive swimming world and always put myself in leadership roles, eventually becoming a coach. Some say my “Only Childness” pushed me to be on the “bossier” side of things, but we’ll leave that alone for now. I graduated college from LIM in New York, NY, with a Fashion Merchandising Degree. I had the opportunity to intern for amazing fashion brands but my heart leads me back to Texas. Fast forward through a few different career choices and I landed in the Yoga and Fitness World. I recently completed my 500 Hour YTT and am an ACE Group Fitness Instructor. It was this path that leads me to where I am today, with Slate Lifestyle and Media Co.
The Story of How Slate Came to Be. Slate Lifestyle and Media Co. is a company dreamed up out of “failed” attempts at blogging but, more importantly, out of the desire to help others be more successful at their craft. I created the company specifically for Health and Wellness Professionals so that they could commit more of their time to their craft and less time on the Media and Marketing side of their Business. My ultimate goal is to help anyone and everyone to be able to express themselves and capture life’s moments through Social Media, Website Design, Photography, and all things “Lifestyle” centered.
I have decided to go on the path of a small business owner in pursuit of living my life to its full purpose. After my mom was diagnosed with her second cancer in 18 months, I realized how important our time here on earth is. I am very lucky that she is doing well and is finished with treatment and surgery and is on the road to recovery. We are each other’s support systems and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And here enter Slate Designs. Like a Phoenix, we ROSE out of the Ashes. After two grueling years of enduring Cancer Treatments AND finding projects to pass the time during a Global Pandemic, Slate Designs was created. With the message all too clear, ‘Life is Precious and Short” came the need to do something MORE. Something fulfilling that gives life, MEANING and PURPOSE. Portions from select Collections are Donated to the Non-Profits that we have teamed up with in order to do MORE.
Has it been a smooth road?
How long do you have?? The struggles over the last few years specifically have been extraordinarily tough, specifically with my Mom and her road through Cancer. And on top of that, trying to figure out a career that satisfies you and pays the bills, has been just as tough. But there’s no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the struggles.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Slate Lifestyle and Media story. Tell us more about the business.

I believe my Mission and even more so my Vision, set me apart from others. The Mission of Slate Lifestyle and Media Co. is to work with clients and their businesses to create stunning and effective Websites, Social Media Platforms, and Photography. The Vision of Slate Lifestyle and Media Co. is quite simple, “To Help Others Be as Successful as What They Can Possibly Be.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Even before the World changed with COVID, I would have said that the industry of Health and Wellness was going towards more in the virtual realm. There’s no doubt that with COVID, the entire Health and Wellness Industry has had to shift its priority within that realm. Lucky for me, I’m in both industries and was able to really grow my business with the lockdown.
