Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Guzman.
Jesus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I do a variety of things today but for the most part, people know me by my Djing. I’ve been djing since I was 15 years old (13 years now). Music has been a big part of my life as far as I can remember. When I was in middle school, I use to keep a stereo by my bedside and listen to the mix shows on the radio late at night. That is where I initially got the inspiration to start djing. Got my start from doing local house parties to being invited to DJ teen events in my city hosted by Local Artist Smoothvega. From there, I made connections with another DJ working in the nightlife industry by the name John Styles. From the age of 17 up until now, I’ve been actively working as a DJ. Expanding my network and being apart of the nightlife industry, mobile and corporate side of things.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No never! Truth be told even when I first started, I never once thought I would be able to do this for as long as I have been doing it. It started as a hobby and turned into a passion. One of the biggest struggles in the beginning is building my network and getting people to give me a chance to DJ their events. From opening up for other djs and doing events at a discounted rate and even sometimes for free to get my foot in the door. Even today for as long as I’ve been around its a never-ending process to staying on top of things. It’s not only if you’re good at what you do but also have a good business sense and that takes time. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the begging thats for sure.
Tell us about your work – what should we know?
In essence, I provide an entertainment service for my clients. Having currently 11 years in the nightlife industry, I know what it takes to get people to dance and enjoy themselves. My job is to get people to stay in the bar and make sure they have a memorable experience and make them returning customers. I specialize in Club/Bars and corporate events for the most part. Experience is what sets me apart from most. My DJing has gotten me to work with corporate clients like Guess, Victoria Secret, Dallas Cowboys, Top Rank Boxing and Amazon, PGA tour. It’s gotten me spots on air like Kidd Kraddick in the morning, Ch 13 Sirius XM Pitbull’s Globalizations, Dish Nation and other radio markets across the nation.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’m passionate about what I do first and foremost. I’ve always had a motto. If it has my hand, it best believed I’m putting my all into it. My work ethic and putting my clients first.
