Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Chavez.
Hi Jocelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey to create a space where people, especially those from underrepresented and underserved communities; could feel truly seen, heard, and understood. As a Queer Latina, I recognized how limited culturally competent and affirming mental health spaces could be.
Through my education and clinical training, I was intentional about building a foundation that centered on understanding people as whole individuals. Over time, I began to develop my own approach to therapy; one that feels grounded, culturally aware, and accepting of who one is.
Today, I continue to grow both personally and professionally, committed to breaking stigmas around mental health and creating a safe, empowering environment for every client who walks into my office.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There has been times I don’t always see myself reflected in this field, which makes it harder to feel like I fully belong.
I’ve also experience imposter syndrome; questioning whether I am ready or qualified enough to step into certain spaces. Over time, I am learning that those feelings can be part of growth, not a sign to hold back.
Building Casa Amarillo Therapy has come with challenges, but each one has helped me feel more grounded in who I am and how I show up in my work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Casa Amarillo Therapy is a space focused on providing culturally aware, supportive mental health care for individuals navigating life transitions, identity, and personal growth.
I’m especially intentional about working with individuals who may not always feel seen in traditional therapy spaces, including those from diverse backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community.
What sets my practice apart is the balance between professionalism and warmth. I’ve built Casa Amarillo Therapy to feel approachable, calm, and authentic; something I’m especially proud of. I want people to know this is a space where they can feel understood, supported, and not have to filter who they are.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is providing representation and creating a space where people feel seen for who they are; not just through a diagnosis. I believe we are human first, and that perspective shapes how I show up in my work.
I also believe in meeting clients where they are. Everyone’s process looks different, and I value creating a space that respects their pace, their story, and their readiness. That’s what allows the work to feel genuine and meaningful.
