Today we’d like to introduce you to John Conroy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us John. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My wife and I had been considering starting a franchise for about a decade. After 30 years as an executive in corporate America, I decided it was time for a change. After 6 months of researching what company would be best for us, we chose Floor Coverings International. We really enjoy working with people and helping them fulfill their vision for new flooring in their home.

Two years ago, we opened the doors to our business, Floor Coverings International Plano. It has been a success ever since. We employ four employees and excel in customer service.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have a very high standard of excellence and pay very close attention to the many details required to result in beautiful new floors. Our industry, home remodeling, has one of the poorest customer satisfaction ratings of any service industry. We have been able to sustain near perfect customer satisfaction ratings by clearly setting customer expectations and then consistently performing at a very high level.

This has not been easy by any means. We have used many installation teams over the years and we have eliminated many from our portfolio. We start by assessing their workmanship. Many think excelling in these areas is enough. We demand that they be on time, be excellent communicators regarding schedule and also respect the customer’s property. We regularly assess their performance and hold them accountable for results.

Floor Coverings International Plano – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Customers love the fact that Floor Coverings International Plano is a turnkey full-service provider. We think of ourselves as “customer advocates,” and our qualified team are there for their clients every step of the way. We have mobile showrooms and offer free in-home shopping where literally thousands of flooring samples are brought to our potential customers.

With our expertise in flooring, we can help clients pick the flooring that best fit their needs. We are able to use technology to do a proposal on the spot which allows for real-time options. Installation is also done on time and on a budget, taking the hassle out of getting new floors.

We set ourselves apart by attention to detail. After all, it when it comes to flooring, there are a lot of details. Making sure the job gets done correctly the first time is important when it comes to floors. My previous occupation as a business leader in the nuclear energy field has given me a razor-sharp focus for attention to detail. Transferring my attention to detail to this industry was an easy transition.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
When we opened this business. We decided that we would focus on helping all those who we work with as a primary criterion for success. That not only includes our customers, but our employees, installers, and suppliers. We always go the extra mile in every way for each group of people involved in making this business a success.

In addition, our business allows us to contribute to the community. We donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as well as Habitat for Humanity. It is a great feeling to give back.
