Meet Johnny Apple of Johnny Apple Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Apple.

Hi Johnny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Johnny Apple Films really started from a simple place: I have always been drawn to people, emotion, and the moments that most people miss.

I was never interested in making wedding films that felt stiff, overly staged, or like the couple had to perform all day. What pulled me into weddings was the real stuff. The nervous energy before the ceremony. A dad seeing his daughter before walking her down the aisle. The way a mom tries to hold it together. The friend group losing it on the dance floor. The small, quiet moments that do not always feel big in real time, but become everything later.

That is what I cared about from the beginning. I wanted wedding films to feel alive. I wanted them to feel like the couple, not like a production.

Several years ago, Johnny Apple Films had a lot of momentum. I had built a name for myself in the wedding industry and was creating at a really high level. I was getting recognized, working with incredible couples, and from the outside it probably looked like everything was moving exactly the way it should.

But life has a way of changing the story.

I went through a divorce, and that season changed me. It pulled me away from the very thing wedding filmmaking is built on: love, family, emotion, and presence. For a while, I could not create from that place with the same heart.

The beautiful part of the story is that the same thing that took me out eventually brought me back in.

After years of healing, self-awareness, fatherhood, and finding real peace again, I returned to Johnny Apple Films with a deeper understanding of what a wedding day really means. I see love differently now. I see family differently. I see the weight of these moments with more clarity than I ever did before.

I am a father of three boys, and fatherhood has shaped me more than anything. It has made me more aware of time, memory, presence, and the importance of actually being in the moment while you are living it. When you go through a hard season personally, you start to notice what lasts, what fades, and what matters most.

That is why coming back to Johnny Apple Films now feels different.

I am not coming back just to make beautiful wedding films. I am coming back with more maturity, more depth, and a much deeper respect for what a wedding day represents.

A wedding is not just a timeline, a venue, a dress, a party, or a highlight film. It is family. It is legacy. It is two people choosing each other in front of the people who shaped them. It is one of the few days where almost every important person in your life is in the same room at the same time.

That is the heart of Johnny Apple Films now.

My approach is calm, observational, and emotionally honest. I care about beautiful imagery, but I care even more about truth. I do not want to manufacture a moment that was not there. I do not want couples to feel like they are being pulled out of their own day just so we can create something that looks good online. I want them to feel comfortable, present, and fully themselves.

The best wedding films, to me, are not about perfection. They are about presence. They are about capturing the actual energy of the day: the laughter, the nerves, the emotion, the chaos, the beauty, and the people who made it matter.

Today, Johnny Apple Films is based in Dallas and focused on modern wedding films that feel alive. Dallas weddings, destination weddings, intentional couples, real families, and people who care more about meaning than putting on a show. I want the work to feel elevated and cinematic, but still deeply personal.

Where I am now is stronger than where I was before. Not because life is perfect, but because I have lived enough to understand the weight of these moments. I know what family means. I know what time means. I know what it feels like for life to change. And I know how powerful it is to have memories preserved in a way that still feels true years later.

In a lot of ways, Johnny Apple Films is not just something I am restarting. It is something I am returning to with a clearer heart.

The best compliment I can receive is not just, “the film was beautiful.” It is when a couple says they felt comfortable, present, and fully themselves.

That is the standard I am building around now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.

One of the hardest parts was stepping away from something I had already built. Several years ago, Johnny Apple Films had real momentum. I was known in the wedding industry, creating at a high level, and working with incredible couples. Then life changed.

Going through divorce affected me deeply. It pulled me away from the heart of the work for a season. Wedding filmmaking is built around love, family, emotion, and presence, and at that time I had to focus on healing, being a father, and rebuilding myself before I could fully create from that place again.

That season was hard, but it also gave me perspective I did not have before. It taught me to slow down, become more self-aware, and understand what really lasts. It made me more grounded as a person, a father, and a storyteller.

The challenge was not just getting back into business. It was getting back with the right heart.

Now, I feel more connected to the work than I ever have. I see weddings with more depth. I understand the weight of family, memory, and presence in a way I could not have understood before. What felt like the thing that took me out eventually became the thing that brought me back with more purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Johnny Apple Films is a Dallas-based wedding filmmaking studio focused on modern wedding films that feel alive, emotional, and true to the couple.

We specialize in wedding films for couples who want their day captured with intention, but without feeling overly staged or pulled out of the moment. Our approach is calm, observational, and story-driven. We care about beautiful imagery, but the real focus is presence: the nerves, the laughter, the family dynamics, the energy, the quiet moments, and everything that makes the day feel personal.

What sets Johnny Apple Films apart is that we are not trying to turn every wedding into the same polished production. Every couple has a different rhythm, family story, and emotional tone. The goal is to understand that and create a film that feels like them. Elevated, cinematic, and refined, but still honest.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the point of view we are building around: modern wedding films that feel alive. I want couples to feel comfortable, present, and fully themselves on their wedding day. The best compliment is not just that the film was beautiful. It is when a couple says they felt seen, relaxed, and like the film truly captured who they are.

Johnny Apple Films serves Dallas weddings and destination weddings, with a focus on intentional couples, real families, and wedding days full of meaning. The work is about more than documenting an event. It is about preserving a season of life, the people who were there, and the feeling of a day that can never happen the same way again.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I have been here my whole life, so Dallas feels personal to me. It is home. I have watched it grow, change, and become a place where people come to build something.

What I like most is the energy. Dallas has drive. People here are building businesses, raising families, starting over, and creating new chapters. As a filmmaker, I also love how many different kinds of stories exist here. Every wedding, every family, and every celebration has its own rhythm.

What I like least is probably the pace. Dallas can move fast, feel spread out, and sometimes feel a little disconnected. But I think that also makes the real human moments stand out even more.

Underneath all the growth, Dallas is still full of families, stories, and people who care deeply about the moments that matter.
