Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Batiste.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey to creating Jayco Handyman & Contracting Services started at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL. I helped a non-profit organization build a couple houses, a wellness center, and school and loved working with my hands. After I graduated and became a math teacher, I spent my summers and breaks working with my hands and helping people in the neighborhood. I eventually got to the point where I was making as much money doing handyman work part time, as I was teaching. That’s when I made the decision to go stop teaching and dive into Jayco Handyman Services full time. Since that decision 3 1/2 years ago, we’ve been able to help hundreds of clients in the residential and commercial space. I’ve grown from a solo operator to one that has a team of licensed techs that can do a plethora of services- stemming from general repairs to demolitions and remodeling projects. We currently have a phenomenal group, 200 positive reviews on Google, have received rewards and recognition from Nextdoor, Best Rate, and the Better Business Bureau- to name a few. We also engage in philanthropy and have helped feed thousands of struggling members in our community (literally), helped provide shoes for kids who’ve outgrown their current pair, and are constantly looking for more ways to give back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There definitely has been a learning curve. When I quit teaching it was because I felt like I had never had any time. I thought- for some strange reason- that starting a business would be less demanding than being a teacher in a core subject. I had no idea what was in store for me in this journey. There were sleepless nights (I pulled 2 back-to-back all nighters to finish a flooring project for a client), I had to do projects at a loss (at times), underbid hundreds of jobs, found out the hard way that once you give up your W-2 you go from getting paid during tax season to owing the government money. There are hundreds of examples I could give to paint a picture of the type of struggles I faced while growing and scaling this company. However, those struggles helped us be able to serve clients not only locally, but in different states as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jayco Handyman & Contracting Services?
Jayco Handyman & Contracting Services is a service-based company that not only provides general maintenance to residential and commercial companies, but we also do remodeling projects as well. We have a phenomenal team that does amazing work throughout the DFW community. We perform a variety of tasks, including: bathroom remodels, closet renovations, painting projects, furniture assemblies, mounting tvs, replacing fans, fixtures, faucets, fences, doors, & more! A full list of our services can be found at JaycoHandyman.com.
I’d ideally like us to be known not only for going over and beyond expectations, but for our customer service as well. We strive to get back to people in a timely manner, lead with quality, and clearly communicate with our clients every step of the way. These are some of the qualities that have helped us get over 200 positive reviews on Google. For those who would like us to help them with a future project, we’ll give the readers of this article a 10% discount when they simply txt the code “Vogue2026”, along with their request, to (919) 617-6132.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
This one is pretty tricky- people in my different circles know a little bit about me, but there’s probably a lot they don’t know. The members of my church community know that we go and create hundreds of meals for struggling families every month, but they probably don’t know that I play piano, keep extra food in my vehicle for when we drive past people who are down on their luck, or that I was a heck of a basketball player back in my “hay day”. One thing a lot of people don’t know is that we have some Spanish speakers on our team, and that I practice Spanish frequently so that we can serve more members of our community.
